    Most modern
gas ovens and many broilers use a "glow-bar" style of igniter that
glows red-hot to ignite the gas. If the igniter doesn't reach the
proper temperature, the gas valve won't open. You may need to replace
    the igniter.

    Check oven
temperature sensor and wiring first, replace control board
if oven temperature sensor is good

  • Anonymous Dec 10, 2008

    Disconnect power to range
and remove oven temperature sensor connector from control.

    · Measure
oven temperature sensor resistance at oven temperature sensor
connector (take care not to damage terminals in block) - Should
read 1100 ohms at room temperature (approx 72 degrees F).

    · Measure each oven temperature
sensor lead from connector block to ground. If shorted, look
for pinched or cut wire in oven temperature sensor circuit.

    · Check connector terminals -
Look for deformed or corrosion on terminals. Repair or replace.

If all above is ok replace control.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls post back the exact model number.

In the meantime, error code "F-31" indicates that the oven door is unlocked or could not be locked. You may want to try and check the oven door by opening and closing and pls determine if you can hear an audible click or the latching of a lock mechanism.

Alternately, in some versions, error code "F-31" indicates that the system's logic controller has sensed that the RTD sensor probe is defective or a fault at its associated wiring.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

In some models/versions, the probe would look like the image below

and should be visible inside the oven.

Check the resistance in ohms of your oven probe at room temp. If its within normal i believe 1100 then it is your control board that is bad. Hope this helps if you need help locating a service center let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,

I have a kenmore electric stove. The top burner

I have the same problem, it turns out that the clock has a sensor in it to turn on the oven. If that sensor is not working, which is found in the clock, the oven does not work. I had a repair guy come out and it will cost 350.00 to repair. My stove is only six years old. It is only two months to the day off warranty. Apparently a power outage can cause the sensor to go. Hope this helps.

Large burner won't shut off

This stove uses a special switch that turns one way for the large burner and the other way for the smaller burner. I was not aware that this had a seperate simmer burner on it, however. I think you using the wrong term there.

This is not computer controlled--the only computer on it should be the oven switch. I would assume that you need to replace the switch for the dual-size burner. If you take your model number in to Sears, or log onto Sears dot com, you should be able to get to the PARTS DIRECT web site on the computer, and if they ever sold that model you should be able to pull up a parts breakdown with expanded drawing and part numbers and prices. You should be able to buy the part from them. The part should be virtually the same as ANY recent model Frigidaire or Kenmore stove with the same style burner. This should be a very easy repair for you to make yourself, assuming that you know a little about working with electricity--remember, this stove USES 220 VOLTS!

Check out all of the wiring coming into the switch and going from the switch to the burner to be sure that there is not a short!

If you have one of the older smooth surface stoves, where the burners are part of the ceramic top, all bets are off, but anything you bought new in the last half-dozen years, should have a separate burner underneath a glass top, and the repair should be simple. Even with the older stove, it is still likely the switch, and should be no problem.

Kenmore gas stove Model 790

It could be that the sensor wire that controls the main gas valve is out of position. It should sit in the pilot light flame.
Look, and adjust if needed.
If it's ok, then you need a replacement main gas safety valve.
This should only be fitted by qualified personnel.
They do give up eventually after years of heating, and fail safe.
