When you run into the error 5,202,54.
In some cases it is enough to shut down the scanner and restart it to solve the problem; sometimes you need to restart the computer, often a significant waste of time. There is a faster and more effective solution that I have found after several attempts, that works always.
- First, open the "Task Manager" by pressing Ctrl-Shift-Esc.
- Then click on the "Services" tab and look for the stisvc service, that is, "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)".
- Look at the "PID" column and get the id of the related process.
- Then go to the "Details" tab and look for the process with that id, which will be one out of the svchost.exe processes.
- Click on that process by the right mouse button and select "End task".
- Then go back to the "Services" tab and restart the WIA service by right-clicking on stisvc and selecting "Restart".
- At this point, you can repeat the scan without experimenting the error message in question.
Hi Mr Seng
Regretfully the fix doesn't always work in Windows 11. Can get a lockup where stisvc"" won't restart (It remains perpetually in "starting"state.
It took two restarts and then the "stisfv" " start in order to use the scan application.
The cure is to use a graphics application which has a "scan"option. In this case, the WIA driver is exclusively used. This works every time. Windows Paint has a built-in option to get images from a scanner. This is under the "File"menu option. The scan can be saved in most desirable image formats.
My Lide 100 scanner is alive again.
Your article is gratefully received and it does work most of the time. Many thanks
Cheers.

Perhaps you have forgotten to unplug the scanner before scanning? That's what happened to me. I kept getting different error codes, 5,202,63 or 5,202,52 or 5,202,54 and also a message that the driver was not in the TWAIN folder. According to the help file the problem might have been due to my nfts file system. I also tried downloading various new drivers. Nothing helped until I noticed that I had not unplugged the scanner!
Admin,
Sorry about this accidentally used an errored autofill option.
Hopefully fixed now.
Cheers,
Mark
Hello everyone
I encountered this same error , 5.202.54 for my Canon printer MG 8150 after te unstallation of windows 11 and I could not use the scanner .
Before all was ok . I follow your process and all works well. I would like to know what happened with this problemm .
Is it a driver problem or any else ?
Regards
Mic
Windows 11 does not require a driver, but will recognize the scanner when it is plugged in, per Canon website. Navigator then works just fine.
