TV started giving three flashes (replace lamp). Replaced with new lamp from discount-merchant but same problem. Replaced lamp ballast today but same problem. Plug in tv and it tries to turn itself on immediately.Makes one clicking noise and nothing after (silence). All three lights start blinking and will go forever. PLEASE HELP.....What could it be? Thanks
Usually the colorwheel will prevent the set from powering up when all three lights blink. Diagnosis assistance is available for free from www.tvrepairworld.com

If your having the "3 light" problem it could be an indication of a bad lamp however if there is a buzzing or a grinding sound it could be one of two moving parts. The color wheel or the cooling fan. I would go the cheaper route and replace the color wheel first. The thing is the lamp will not turn on if there is a problem with one of the other two parts. TRUST me ... I've replaced all three parts just to find out it was only the cooling fan. (at least I have another lamp handy when the new one goes out). The motor on the cooling fan is too small for such a big fan so I would definately try it first. It's a big problem with the DLP tvs. Hope this helps.

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.
Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.
Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
