I checked the upper arm rotation at different times by set it at
12 oclock and it never changed position, some told me the arms work at different cycles. The upper rack does not get very clean.

Yes, exactly the same problem and I would love to know how to fix it myself without spending a ton of money for a repair person. I can live with this, but it is annoying and the dishes on the top do not get very clean.

Docks are clear it seams like the pump is blocked.

Read on another site that if the dishwasher is not near being perfectly level, this can happen.  The check ball moves back and forth allowing water to get to the upper arm sometimes and the lower arm at other times.  The upper arm does not usually start until later in the cycle.  Level is checked by when the door is open and the door is level.
Did'nt find a solution to my problem but I hope this helps others.

SOURCE: Upper rack dishes not coming clean.

You could try running it with the upper arm removed, just so you could be sure that the pressure is not getting to that point - unless you are absolutely sure the upper arm holes/channels are all clear then descale it overnight with some vinegar - just might clear something. if there is obviously only a little flow of water then perhaps you could try getting vinegar into the supply pipe using a basting bulb/syringe or similar - again leave overnight and you may get lucky. The next thing would be to take the machine apart so you could follow this hose through to the pump - undo it from the pump and blow through it or see if you can get a piece of wire in it from the pump end. try vinegar again. check the pump outlet for blockage. Hope this helps :)

SOURCE: Frigidaire FDB740RCS0 Upper Armnot Turning

Make sure the spout leading into the top spray arm is not obstructed at all. Maybe simplistic, but could be overlooked. Just thought I'd put it out there.

SOURCE: Upper Spray Arm gets no water, Fridg Model

Hi,

I am sorry to inform you that Frigidaire units are not very good units. You can check the motor and the screen for debris its the wash impeller that pushes the water to the top if its worn it wont have the force to push it to the top rack.Removed the upper rack feed tube from the pump and there appears to be a nylon ball bearing blocking the feed tube. Try freeing that ball and try the unit again it could be the problem. If that is not the case, then the problem is with main motor.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I have an LG model LDS4821 dishwasher that quit washing clean. Top rack is the dirtiest. Water is hot and bottom drain is clean.

The most likely cause is a blocked or clogged wash arm. Many times when the wash stops the debris blocking the spray will back away. The holes in the arm are aimed to cause the arm to rotate. The clogged hole is usually an outer diameter hole which provides the force for the arm to rotate.

Some upper end washers have a blocked arm sense to alert when arm is blocked.

Careful not to deform the geometry of the hole when removing the debris. Tweezers work the best.

The unit is 6 years old. Dishes on the top rack do not get cleaned. Dishes on the bottom rack are fine.

Hi,

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

Dishes are cloudy and have soap residue. Have cleaned upper &lower spray arm often, as good as posible (find holes plugged). water level & temp. seems normal . Water intake screen appears clean

Clean the spray arm jet holes if they are blocked. Check whether you have filled the rinse-aid dispenser.

Check whether arm turns freely when rotated by hand manually.

Top sprayer not working

Check and clean the filter inside at the bottom of the dishwasher. Make sure the spray arm rotates freely and that the holes are not clogged. If the dishwasher has a collapsable tower to shoot water into the upper spray arm, make sure it is not stuck and that nothing is blocking it from rising.

Will not clean dishes on the upper rack

Make sure you get water to the dishwasher. Check to see if the water shut-off valve (located under the sink) is open. If you get water to the dishwasher, but there is still no water inside during the fill cycle, the problem might be with a faulty water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side), in which case replace the water valve.

If there is not enough water, the dishes would not get cleaned. This could be caused by a partially closed water shut-off valve (located under the sink), or a faulty dishwasher water valve (located at the bottom of the dishwasher, behind the kick panel, on either side).

There is usually two, sometimes three spray arms in a dishwasher. Make sure there is no debris blocking the holes inside each spray arm.

LG LDS5811WW Low pressure out of spray arms

On the LG LDF xxxx dishwasher family, the Vario feature uses a motor/check valve to switch between "full power" cleaning from _either_ the lower or the upper spray arms, never at the same time. So, not seeing the upper arm spin during the lower arm spinning is standard operating procedure.

But back to your problem. Step one would be to remove the filter assembly again and make certain that there is nothing (debris, broken glass) blocking the white areas where the check valve rotates to switch between upper/lower spray arms. A blockage there ~could~ cause impotent spraying/cleaning.

If there is no blockage and the impeller remains in good shape, suspect a failing wash pump motor. Try to isolate the noise to that motor.

Watch for error codes on the display and report back what you find, OK?

Good Luck!

Not enough water pressure to move upper arms or clean dishes

Recommend you pull the bottom spray arm straight up, then out of the DW.
Remove 9 phillips screws that hold the filter shroud down. Remove the filter and clean/rinse it out.
While the filter it out, grab a flashlight and inspect all over the sump area. Especilly in the area the has the check valve that rotates (Vario motor-driven) to feed the water pressure either to the lower and then the upper arms. Watch out for broken glass! Also, inspect the impeller to see if it is undamaged and spins easily.
Reassemble, then test out.
If problems remain, the the wash pump motor is probably the culprit. Do you get any error messages on the time display?
Good Luck!

Figidare dishwasher

It seems other posts were correct - The upper arm doesn't spin all the time. Once I learned that, and let the dishwasher cycle through, I saw that the upper arm does spin. So, there wasn't a problem with the upper arm afterall. That doesn't solve my crusty dishes problem, but that may have something to do with the soap we're using. We're going to try changing that next.

Upper spray arm is not turning round even though water is coming through. We have checked the internal system for blockages and the machine is filling / draining as normal. When a full programme is run,...

I found the problem to be neither blockages of the upper arm or roof spray arm or the upper basket arm hitting the the back of the dishwasher. the problem was that the pump inlet where the food scraps are macerated was blocked with all manner of gunge including small chicken bones plastic and other detritus. Removal of the macerator housing under the upper filter housing using 2 different sizes of torx driver easily fixed the problem. Probably why the upper dish rack cleaning degraded overtime, Directly proportional to the amount of detritus blocking the intake screen behind the macerator.17a8801.jpgb9e8fa8.jpg789f2b8.jpgfb7a626.jpgator. Lower arm won't spin

the arm only rotates with water shooting out of the angled jets at the end of the arm and these are probably blocked ( i assume it is free to totate manually) take the arm out and run water into the centre hole and this will help push whatever is blocking it to a visible position - usually rice or sweetcorn. you say there are no obstructions in arm but when no water flowing, the blockage tends to slump back into the main body of the arm and out of sight
