Our MP510 Printer scanner will not scan - though it prints ok. When trying to scan from the PC it begins the process of scanning, but then returns the error to the PC screen "Cannot communicate with scanner, cable may be disconnected or scanner turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed. Code 2,155,0

  • sau9999 Jan 02, 2009

Called Canon about this just today. I have same problems as everyone - prints fine, copies fine, snags on scanning. Tries to scan, always gets interrupted in the middle of it, saying "cannot communicate".

Reading some solutions on the internet, I went and bought a new USB cable - still didn't work.

Tech support said it was likely something else on the computer interrupting communication - firewall, or antivirus or something. The problem was not solved when I hung up. This printer is only about a year old....:/

All other functions on the printer works fine with the exception of the scanner. Worked fine when I first bought it but all of a sudden won't scan anything!

Try using your scanner from your computer, I'm using windows XP and when i go to My Computer and the printer is connected i see a section that says Scanner and Cameras, your printer should be there, click on it and follow the easy step to scan a document.

You can scan to your PC from the printer buttons once the PC is set up for it. Two steps get it ready.
1. After pressing the button on the printer to scan, glance over at the computer screen. Select MP Navigator from the "Which program?" dialog box.
(If MP Navigator does not appear in the list, install it from the CD that came with your printer or download from the Canon website.) 2. Before clicking OK, check the "Always use this program" box. Next time you scan, it will automatically open MP Navigator and the scan will appear on screen.

Uninstall any MP Navigator program that is currently on your system and then install the software from the link below,

This should fix the problem

If you are pushing scan and then black or color and the scanner is not working then check to see if the scanner loaded whth the rest of the options. Click start, chose printers and faxes, choose scanners and cameras, right click WIA Canon MP510, choose properties, check status. If not active or not there, you will need to reinstall.

Pixma mp510 with Mac

Hey,

I had the same problem. First you want to install what is called MP Navigator, you can google that and download it easily. Then after 4 hours of searching I found out you need the driver from this link: http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/256522/canon-pixma-mp510-scanner-driver-v12.13.0-mac-os-x-free-download.html

It's the scanner driver. Hope that helps!

Scanner problems

You may have a printer driver error.

Remove the USB cable from the PC.

Uninstall the printer from Add/Remove Programs from control panel.

Get your printer driver with the CD that came with it and install the printer again. Or download latest printer driver from canon - type "canon mp510 driver" into google.

Install new driver.

If its still not working, it may just be a connection problem between your computer and the scanner - check the USB cable is ok.

If its not that (more than likely not) then the workaround is to go into MPNavigator on your PC (start programs, printers, Canon MP510, Canon Utlilities, MP Navigator 3.0 (or whatever version ures is ))

then you need to set a short cut to that... it allows you to scan directly from that program.

Hope it works

Canon MP510 wont recognise cartridges

Using replacement cartridges that come without a chip seems to be the problem I had with the Canon Pixma 510 printer they are cheaper
but if they do not show the ink levels then its inconvienent so I have but Canon products with a chip and they work perfectly.
