The screen goes blank for a couple of minutes then comes back. It keep blacking out every minute or so. The sound stays on and the green light stays solid.

Its most likely an intermittent lamp. The lamp door is located behind the front panel. The front panel can be removed after loosening the two thumb wheels located on either end of the TV in the rear. Observe the light coming from the area around the lamp door. If you see that the light is going out, its the lamp. You can also access the self-diagnosis menu by using the remote control. Start with the TV off. Push the "mute", then the number 5 button, and then the volume down button followed by the power button. When the picture appears, the menu will been visable. If there is a failure with the lamp, or a fan, or many other areas in the TV there will be a number value to the right of the parameter that indicates the number of times the error has occurred.

same thing is happening to me.....i chatted with a sony "expert" on sony's website he told me to use different inputs for the sources, im like listen pal, this is happening on hd channels also, where else can i plug the antenna? no response from the expert lol, but im still looking for an answer

Sony Wega's are noted for having a bad lamp and a warped lamp door due to heat. I recommend replacing the lamp and the lamp door. You can find both of these at www.fultonelectronics.com and also www.encompassparts.com . You can do these yourself with ease.
