Does the cooktop burners work? if they do then the problem is either the safety valve or the glow plug (even though it glows). Try tapping the safety valve. If the oven lights up change the glow plug.Otherwise change the safety valve

Hot surface igniter will glow and put out a flame but is not a blue/orange flame

First you need to get a nice blue steady flame to prove to the ignition module there is flame. Check you orifice and bypass tube.
tip

Oven not Working or Oven not Heating

If your gas oven is not working or not heating then you need to check this out. Today’s gas ovens are not often do not use the simple thermocouple with a pilot to prove the flame anymore. They have a much more complicated method of lighting the burner and proving the flame.

The use of electric igniters has become the standard for many ovens today. The thermostat calls for heat, power is supplied to the igniter, then after a certain amperage draw on the igniter, the gas valve is energizes to open and allow gas to flow starting the flame. As long as the amperage draw on the igniter is high enough then the gas valve stays open till the thermostat is satisfied.

Sometimes the igniter will crack and no current will go through and the igniter will not even heat up or glow. Sometimes the igniter will wear to the point where it will still heat up and glow, but the current draw will not be high enough to allow the gas valve to open. This creates a confusing situation where you look into the oven and see the glow from the igniter, but get no heat because the burner never lights up. If this is the case then you will need to replace the igniter even though it seems to be okay. The only way to know for sure is to know what the current draw requirements are for that gas valve and to have an amp meter to check the current draw.

Most of the time the problem will be in the igniter, and not the gas valve. Gas valves can go bad, but that is the case in only a very small amount of the situations. It is a pretty safe bet that if you have a problem with you gas oven lighting that you have a problem with your igniter.

GE wall oven gas model # JGRS14 won't heat past 100 and I don't see any flames

if you can see the ignitor glowing on either the broiler or the lower area of the oven then the gas valve is bad and not opening anymore, sometimes the ignitors are the culprit as they are in series with the gas valve and if weak wont let the valve open, but both upper and lower burners not operating i would suspect a gas valve first

Fridgiaire range model XFGF3005LWB

the glow plug may be working as in its glowing, but even so they can seem to be working, but if they are weak they can appear o.k. but wont pass enough current to completely open the gas valve and keep it fully open, thats why it sometimes wont light or if they do the flame is wavering or small and you smell gas, just replace the glow plug

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Oven won't light, but the stove top burners are fine. Don't smell any gas or any indication the oven is attempting to light....

next time send the brand name and model number so i can look up your machine,if it's a gas stove most likely it will be a bad ignitor, even if the ignitor glows it still could be bad,if the flame doesn't ignite and the ignitor is glowing change it out,if it isn't glowing pull out the ignitor and check it with a meter, common problem.

Oven burner doesnt light

Doubt that the glow plug is bad. Gas only needs about 1100 degree F. to ignite using the glow plug method. It really seems as if there may be no gas getting to the burner. If there is no flame, you should be able to smell gas. If there is no gas smell, then I would look for the obvious such as: is the gas turned on?, Does the gas valve on the unit have a safety that is tripped? and so on. A new gas valve may be in order but make sure that it is receiving the proper voltage when the glow plug is on. Lastly, there may be a safety that is malfunctioning. If the unit does not light within a given time, the safety will "Lock Out" the unit so the place doesn't fill up with gas.
Hope this helps and good luck.

Wall oven will not light

Remove the flame spreader panel to access the ignitor.
Place a clamp on amp meter on the ignitor wire and turn the oven on.
If you read less than 2.9 amps, replace the ignitor.
If you read 2.9 to 3.2 amps replace the gas safety valve.
