Check below the email, i received from HP regarding the same problem. I had my adaptor broken two weeks ago and am using cello tape to hold the adaptor in the right position... sadly, hp wont give you a replacement, even though my laptop is fully covered by warranty.

The cable connector has been broken off. is there any way of fixing this without replacing the entire board

With most tv's I've serviced, the cable connector is connected directly to the tuner module. The tuner module may be damaged beyond repair, depending upon how much physical force was applied to the cable connector. I would take it to a reputable repair shop and let them provide you a honest estimate of repair. They may be able to resolder the cable connector to the tuner module.

RF Modulators and cable connections

948bde9.jpg

RF MODULATOR HOOKUP
For a TV with only a RF input jack, a RF Modulator can be used to hookup DVD players, DVD recorders and other devices which output RCA composite video and audio. For example, analog cable TV can be connected using a RG-6 type coaxial cable to a VCR or older DVD recorder's analog cable ready tuner RF input. Then as shown above, the output can be connected to the TV thru the RF modulator. The modulator outputs on channel 3 or 4 for the older TV so the TV is set to channel 3 or 4. Some RF modulators are built-in to Audio/Video switch boxes. These allow multiple RCA inputs along with RF input.

RF MODULATOR CLOSE-UP
The modulator converts signals to channel 3 or 4 so older TVs can tune them on their analog tuners channel 3 or 4.

Have a new Lenovo C315 with TV tuner (Avermedia A317 mini pci hybrid) - but the connector in the back of the PC for the antenna is nothing that I am familiar with. How am I supposed to connect my TV...

I have the same C315. It was supposed to ship with a proprietary dongle that connects to the TV port and converts it to a standard coaxial cable input. I never received the dongle either and am fighting with Lenovo to get them to ship one to me. I was initially told that I had to return the computer to Lenovo and they would ship me a new C315 as they had no means to send me ONLY the tv dongle. Well the new unit arrived WITHOUT THE DONGLE again. I share your frustration.

Cable hookup broken

Sometimes you can replace the rf connector by resoldering it with a replacement rf. You will have to remove the tuner to do this. The big question is did you crack the tuner board or the board the tuner is connected to. You will really have to examine these. In most of my cases a successful replacement rf connector will fix.

Cable female adaptor is missing

The small metal box is the tuner. The tuner has to be removed to replace the broken off RF connector. The connector has to be soldered to the tuner housing (metal box) and the leg of the connector has to be soldered to the circuit board, board has to be checked for cracks or if it is broken. If board is damaged the tuner will have to be replaced, if its available.

Need an RCA Adapter for a TOSHIBA D-VR610KU

If the RF Modulator will convert a coaxial signal to an RCA output signal, fine however, you still need a tuner to select the channel on the TV you want to record. This unit is primarily for dubbing or copying DVD to VCR or VCR to DVD. There is no tuner in the unit to get the cable signal. Try hooking up an additional VCR, that probably has a tuner in it and use the RCA out of the 2nd unit to the RCA in of the Toshiba. Hook the coax to the input coax jack of the 2nd then RCA out to RCA in of the Toshiba. Choose what channell you want to record on the 2nd unit. You may have to choose Auxillary mode on the toshiba the press instant record on the Toshiba. Again, this unit is a Player or Dubber. Not designed to record TV shows without an external tuner. I hope this helps. If you use a 2nd VCR just to get the TV Signal, you won't need the modulator.

How do we adjust our tv

You didn't mention anything about a cable box, VCR, etc. which might be connected. A snowy pic. means simply, inadequate signal is reaching the tuner, or the TV tuner itself is bad. If the first is so... check your cabling. If you have a VCR or DVD player hooked in between the cable box or outside antenna (whichever is the case), VCR (RF or ant.) out should go to the TV, VCR antenna (RF or ant.) input to the cable box. Also check the cable wire itself. If you look at the end of the cable, you should see a relatively thin center wire. This center conductor is what carries the signal. If it is missing, bent over, or too short to make contact with whatever it is connected to, you will have a very snowy pic. If you have a spare TV, connect it in place of your "new" TV, to narrow down the problem. Lastly, if all is well with hookup, cabling, etc. the TV might have a problem. Sometimes the tuner has a component defect, or the coaxial connector can be broken.
