My iMac will upload some CDs but not others. Some CDs pop right in and are recognized. But more often, the CD drive is slow to start spinning, sometimes stops and auto-ejects the disk before iTunes asks to import. Once a CD is recognized and appears on the desktop or iTunes, it works fine. Suggestions?

you've most likely got something running that is competing with processing time for your player. i'd open up activity monitor and see what processes are highest on CPU % usage. the ones that look elective (not system-related), turn 'em off. turn off spotlight for a sec too. then test your import into itunes afterwards. is it still slow?

I think that the mechanism of the cd accepter must be not accepting the cd due to blockages such as dust or sand particles. If you are experienced, open the case and try to find blockages. If problem persists, Call the company's support.

1) Restart the computer and try again. If that fails, 2) Gently blow canned air into your CD drive slot. If that fails, 3) Bring the unit in for a drive replacement.

Hi, has this mini been opened up to add more memory?
I would suggest that before you conclude that the ATA bus is damaged, open the mini up and see if the ATA connector is still connected to the motherboard. (It's the same connector for both drives).

Hi,
The problem would be the dvd rom, it won't read anymore.
That's a problem with a combo DVD rom, when it being use frequently it tends to breakdown, mainly the problem is the internal parts.
I have tried repairing most DVD/CD Roms, to no avail..... mostly the problem would be the parts, and it is not available in the market, and it is better to buy a new one than getting it into the manufacturer's service center, they charge excessively like your buying a new one!
If the CD is stuck inside, get a pointed metal rod, there is a small hole in the face front and push the rod into that hole untill it opens the cd tray.
Thanks for using FixYa!
