Very slow iMac 10.4.11

Well, there are a variety of reasons that can consequently drag down the performance of your Mac. Meanwhile, there are certain ways through which you can considerably speed up your Mac machine. For example, you can reset the browser settings to regularly clear useless caches and history, get rid of all unwanted widgets from the dashboard through the Dashboard control panel, remove unnecessary applications, find out & delete those duplicated files, or if your Mac is running out of memory, try upgrading the system RAM to boost its performance etc. However, if you prefer a more efficient way to speed up your Mac, try the following all-in-one Mac speedup tool as it can help resolve all issues in just a few clicks.Read more from: http://www.howtospeedupmac.com/

Old owner passed on and noone knows the password

You will need to remove the cmos battery / flash the cmos jumper / refit battery then reboot.

Do not attempt this if you have never done it. Get an expert to do this.

Discharging A iMac....

Discharging the CRT is quite tricky and dangerous, it should only be carried out by a qualified mac tech.

Never work on a mac with the power connected!

The gear you need is safty glasses, ungrounded foam pad, needlnose pliars, wire lead with alligator clip at both ends and a CRT discharge tool (if you do not have a discharge tool you can use a insulated srewdriver attached to a wire lead with alligator clips on both ends)

Use one hand keeping the other behind your back. Do not touch anything with the other had while you are discharging.

Once you have taken off the casing connect the alligator clip from the lead to the ground lug on the all-in-one system. Then slide the discharge tool under the anode cap into the anode aperture. As soon as you feel the metal of the probe touching the metal of the aperture, the CTR is discharged.

Try not to leave the machine open for any lenght of time.

You can find more information on Apples knowldge base.

My iMac Won't Boot

If you have the boot disk try loading it by restarting it holding down the c key. If the hard drive image doesn't appear on the desktop it is bad, which is my guess of what the problem is.

My iMac Won't Boot

Try booting with a boot disk like the install disk or a Norton disk. If you cant see the hard drive image on the desktop it is bad. If you see the HD image the chances are you have a bad ram chip. To test the ram if you have more then one stick in there pull one at a time and try to boot. Hope this helps

My computer is registered with a mac administrator that i dont have...

Can you get into System Preferences to add a new account? If so, set up a new user account for yourself and make sure the checkbox is checked that will allow you to administer the account. That won't delete all of the stuff associated with the original admin. account, but will allow you to go happily on your way with a new account. I hope this helps. Happy holidays, Jon

Does not recognize the built in ethernet card.

Joecho,
First question is, what version of OS X are you running? Second,
Can you go into your system preferences, select network prefs, and next to SHOW, choose Network Status and verify 66b4536.png
That BUILT-IN ETHERNET is recognized?

Keep me posted.

4sns 1 4000000 th00 9.000

There are several causes for this:
  • Dust buildup in the computer prevents proper cooling, so the fans have to work harder.
  • Corrupted Power Manager chip settings. Go to the Apple support page and search for "Power Manager" "reset" and your specific model. You can get the model number from the System Profiler utility (Apple menu: About this Mac: More Info). If this is the problem, resetting the Power Manager should solve it. If it happens again after unplugging, you may need a new clock/PRAM battery;
  • Bad temperature sensor (all fans run at high speed);
  • Shorted fan driver transistor on the logic board or in power supply (one fan always runs at max speed).
