LG Side by Side refrigerator - ongoing intermittent beep - not door alarm

We have a GRP257STS (Australian, discontinued model) Side by Side LG fridge that has an ice dispenser and a Home Bar. It is making a single beep noise (different to the door open alarm) which sounds at variable intervals, sometimes a few times a minute, sometimes every other minute or sometimes once every 5 minutes (all while nobody is touching the fridge). This has been going on for a few hours today. It happened previously and went on continually for 3 days then stopped. The fridge is 3 years old, out of warranty. Is there any troubleshooting we can look at doing ourselves? Thanks kindly

I powered it off at the wall for 10 mins and now it has stopped.

SOURCE: Samsung RSE8KPUS noise

I have worked on refrigerators for 30 years but never worked on a Samsung. This is a WILD and I do mean WILD guess at what the noise may be. Don't use this information to attempt a repair but just to track where noise may be coming from.
There is a motorized damper door that opens and closes between the freezer section and the refrigerator section. My guess is that that damper assembly is what is making this noise. I can not tell you why it may be making this noise except that if is making the noise it probably is going bad. Remember this is just a guess and you will need to locate the damper assembly in order to try to pinpoint the origin of the sound. Your recording was wonderful and I wish more people in my everyday job would use their heads like you. I hope this sheds some light on the problem. Remember I am just guessing, don't spend money till you are able to verify cause.
Seems there would be a 1 year warranty on the frig.

SOURCE: Loud humming noise as fridge is running

Sounds like the freezer fan is rubbing some wires or possible some foam insulation around the fan. I would look into the freezer compartment fan and go from there. The fan Will Shut off when you open the doors. Let me know how you make out and if you need anymore help.

Thanks,
Bill

SOURCE: The alarm beep which tells you to close

Hello,

Sounds like you have a bad door switch. Depending on the age of the fridge, it might still be under warranty. If it's not, then you might be able to access the door switch yourself and pull it out & replace it.

Good luck......

On my lg French door refrigerator it is beeping intermittently. The temperature led on the front changes by itself. It is cooling.

I had the same problem with my LG side by side fridge. After lots of hassles I found that one of the switches on the control panel had moisture in it. After changing the faulty switch all my problems were solved. No more beeping by it self and all the buttons work fine.

My lg fridge wont stop beeping

Check the freezer:
If your fridge does not have an auto-defrost function then excessive ice-build up in the freezer can cause the beeping alarm. If you see a lot of ice build-up in the icebox or freezer, switch off the fridge and let the ice thaw. Once the fridge is thawed, the beeping should stop.

Disable lg refrigerator door alarm

It depends on your model. I have a LRFD25850ST which is an older one from circa 2006. It's a side-by-side LG with the lower freezer. You can not turn the door alarm off, and the actual location of the beeper speaker itself seems to be INSIDE the left-side door, which would make it difficult to find to snip a wire. . Here's what I did to disable mine. Yours may not be exactly the same if it's not the same model, but maybe this will be helpful:
--
Above each door hinge on top of the fridge (top left, top right) are two plastic covers held on by one screw and a snap tab.
1. On each side, remove the screw, and snap the cover off.
2. The cover has the plunger switch on it that is activated by the door. The switch has a plug-in connector with 4 wires on it.
3. Two of the wires are HEAVY. Two are thin (mine were thin gray wires)
4. Snip either one of the thin gray wires.

That's it. You need to do this on both doors. I did not disable it on the lower rock-out freezer door, and did not look for where the similar switch is, because the freezer door is rarely if ever a problem for us. It's the two main fridge doors that always cause the beeping because it beeps in only 30 seconds which isn't even enough time to put a few groceries away or take out food to make dinner!

One side effect is that the in-door water dispenser will now WORK even when the door is open. I consider that a plus, as shutting off the water dispenser just because somebody opens the opposite door is a royal pain in the....

And of course, you no longer have a door alarm, so if you leave the door open, your food will get warm or spoil. But honestly... people survived for 50 years with fridges that didn't "remind" them to close the door like a child. We don't need this nonsense.

Solved beeping problem.........Samsung SRS539HW . Have one of these and it is 6 years old. I had to replace the bottom hinge on the fridge side(right). Easy job but now constant beeping as if door is open, and light is intermittent. Found that there is considerable wear on the cable through top hinge of door and one of the wires from a magnetic reed switch in door had broken. I discovered this by shorting the two fine wires (white and pink/white) going to internals of fridge. No more beeping due to door opening and light now working correctly. Of course I no longer get a beep for a valid door open to long but cheaper than getting a refridgerator expert in.

Want to dismantle the alarm sound.

I did this before and couldn't remember how. This works on our fridge which has a water dispenser and a bunch of buttons on the left door: Try holding the express freez and lock button for a few seconds. The beeping of the buttons should stop too. I tried countless live chats with the LG people and none of them could help me. I tried a bunch of combinations and found this one to work.
