Try using the Lexmark Productivity Studio to scan. To access that, on your computer, click on Start > All Programs > Lexmark 5600-6600 Series > Lexmark Productivity Studio.
If it doesn't work, try to uninstall the Lexmark driver and download an updated driver online at support.lexmark.com.

If you still have the Lexmark X5650 install disc that came with your printer, re-insert it to your computer hard drive and run the program. This will help repair the OCR scan software and possible corrupted files necessary for scanning documents.
Try to download and install the Lexmark X5650 printer driver for Windows 7 from the Lexmark website. First, disconnect your printer from your computer.
