Kenmore 80 series agitator problem

Hi have a Kenmore 80 series washer. When the washer engages the agitator, there's a loud "clank" noise. It also makes this noise when it engages into spin mode. The top agitator seems to be working correctly, but the bottom one is barely moving thus causing clothes to wrap around and stress or cause the washer to stop.

My top loading Kenmore Series 80 top loading washing will not run. When I noticed the motor would not engage agitation, I checked the circuit breaker and found that it had switched off. Turned breaker...

I would use a voltmeter and test the power to the motor. If there is power, then motor is faulty. If motor spins but not agitator then ****** could be bad. If no power to the motor, then a fuse or main circuit capacitor may be bad but testing with a manual and multi-tester meter will be needed to test for the failed componenent

My Kenmore 80 series washer won't spin, and it just makes a loud gear grinding noise. What could this be, and how do I fix, in the simplest form please I'm chick... :)

rebecca it is probably the motor coupler. Move or slide ur machine over and if there is ruber filings under it then it is the coupler.

Series 80 won't agitate or spin will pump out water

If the washer will fill and drain, but won't agitate or spin, you may have a broken motor coupling. The noise of the motor engaging, lack of agitation and ability to still drain are the usual symptoms. This is a common fail item with this model washer through normal wear and tear. Newer versions of the coupler are more resilient and resist breaking. The following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385250-replacing_motor_coupling_kenmore_top

The motor coupling is located between the drive motor and the transmission and takes the place of a drive belt. They do wear out and can break. The replacement part number is included in the link I provided and is an improved upgraded coupling that is more resilient. It should last longer. If you have questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

A replacement coupler can be purchased on line at appliancepartspros.com for about $11. Just use the part number in the link and "Search by Part Number" for your search criteria.

If you still have questions, please let me know. If the suggestions I have listed do not match your washer symptoms, please post back and elaborate more on what the washer is/is not doing. That way I can provide you with better assistance. I hope this information is helpful to you

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.

Washing machine

it could be the break above the transmission. it engages what looks like break shoes when the machine is not spinning. if these are worn down to the rivets then it will make this noise. it requires a special tool to replace.0de7df9.jpg

Kenmore 80 series not agitating

Most likely you have a bad motor coupler. If you open the console and remove the two brass clips, this will let the front, sides and top all come off as you tilt it forward. At the botom center, you will find two metal clips holding the pump on. Remove. You will find 2 screws holding similar clips holding the motor on. Removed. On the back of the motor, is your coupler. Replace. Then re-assemble.
