Elna carina
You may find this at www.diplodocs.com or www.scribed.com free, otherwise you will probably need to buy it from www.sewingpartsonline.com or www.sewing-machine-manuals.com , I think it came as 2 books, Instruction Manual and Sewing Guide.

I can direct you to a service manual for your machine but it may be something that you need a trained Elna service technician to deal with.
Link is http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_service/air_elec_carina_elec_SM.pdf
I am more familiar with the SU air electronic where you just hold the outside of the flywheel and turn the inside knob to disengage and rengage the clutch - didn't realise the Carina had a button flywheel release until I looked in the service manual.
Anyway, you could try dismantling the flywheel following the exploded diagram in the service manual if you are technically minded.
Or just take it to a reputable serviceman, I'm a big fan to supporting these guys as their knowledge is invaluable.
SOURCE: machine doesnt switch off keeps running slowly
Thanks for return email.
I took the machine to an Elna dealer who fixed the problem by by-passing the (small board) switch that returns the needle to the ready position after filling the bobbin. It is quite frustrating not having that facility after being so used to it.
Kind regards
Yolande

Is it possible that you've lowered the feed dogs and not raised them again? Is the stitch length dial set to 2.5 and not on a buttonhole blue setting or the Automatic "A" setting?
SOURCE: How do you thread the Elna Carina?
thought I had a manual with an image of this but can't find it.
But pretty simple.
Place thread onto one of the spool pins at the back right, and pull thread across to the left and around the white blob on top of the machine head then back to the right to the little thread eyelet, down through this and down to the thread guide taking thread around it from the right and back up on the left side, back up and through the thread take up lever, then down again catching behidn the little thread guide, then to needle bar thread guide, then to needle eye.
ALWAYS HOLD THE two threads firmly behind the pressure foot when you start sewing - Really important.
Always wind and insert the bobbin with the holes on top, smooth side downwards. Place bobbin into bobbin holder and take thread take towards you and into the tension spring groove, pressing down on the thread with your finger until you hear it click into the tension spring. pull back the other way to check it is in there, if it comes out, do it again.
Bobbin will rotate anticlockwise when you pull the thread.
THen put needle plate cover down and draw bottom thread to the top using flywheel or the needle up/down button on these lovely machines.
Hope this helps, if not post again and I'll dig out images from my SU manual.

Search yellow pages for local sewing machine repair men, then ring them and ask if they can replace the capacitors on your machine. If they start talking knowledgably about the Carina then I'd take it to them. In user groups, these types of technicians are called OSMG (old sewing machine guy) and they are worth their salt. There is also White Sewing Center in USA. website www.whitesewingcenter.com, and they specialise in Swiss Elnas.
