I start the mower and it will run for 5 minutesif that. After that it starts to sputter as if there is no gas in the mower, then it finally dies out and can't be re-started for 10-15 minutes later? What is the deal?
regular lawn mower ...starts then stops...not getting gas i think...stops running when the primed fuel runs out....i should have taken shop instead of art....hoses filter and plug all newregular lawn mower ...starts then stops...not getting gas i think...stops running when the primed fuel runs out....i should have taken shop instead of art....hoses filter and plug all new

Engine would run for five minutes and die. i enlareged the hole in the gas cap using a drill bit and the problem seems solved. Engine would run for five minutes and die. i enlareged the hole in the gas cap using a drill bit and the problem seems solved.
I wouldn't open a hole in the fuel tank cap. 90% of all small engine problems revolve around bad fuel/contamination in the tank. If more dust and debris can find it's way into the fuel, the problem won't get better.I wouldn't open a hole in the fuel tank cap. 90% of all small engine problems revolve around bad fuel/contamination in the tank. I had a very similiar issue, try this, when the mower starts to die, unscrew the gas cap, if it starts running again, it is creating a vacuum in your fuel tank, you can get a new gas cap, or drill a small hole in it to allow a bit of air inside.
Find the fuel air mixture screw and while the mower is running turn so mower almost stops then turn them back till the moter is running smoother.Give it some throtle to see & hear how it is running
Bad gas? Water? Air filter plugged causing it to choke and sputter? Wouldnt kill it though. Sounds like water trying to be spent in bowl? ,or I'd say like almost always, clean carb , main jet gets plugged, bowl can't fill fast enough till it dies, then while sitting bowl fills back up, then runs till sputters then die.

The valves DO NEED adjusting every 250 to 300 hours of service. That is why it dies out beleive me. It is not that hard to do if you have a service manual to help you along to perform this task
if it is already running and you "engage" the choke, you will flood the engine with too much gas and it will sputter and die. the only time you engage the choke is to start the engine when it is cold. if the mower dies when you remove jumper cables, and you leave the choke alone, you need to have someone look at your charging system.
hi it seems to me either a lack of compression when she is warm /hot /check tappets or a weak mixture /air leak on the inlet someware hope this is of some help merlinv12
check fuel pump diaphram is not streched or hard, check fuel filter for blockage, or fuel tank cap might be not venting, if none work drain and clean out carby bowl.
fuel delivery probblem might be vapor lock(to much heat getting to fuel lines and carb) may also have dirt in fuel bowl on carb and in tank ,gas tank lid may not be venting . it will be one of these three things
On some mowers...if the gas cap vent is not working properly, it will run fine for about 15 or 20 minutes, start spitting and sputtering, if you loosen the cap, and let air back into the tank it starts running normally again.
I basically have the same problem, I can make mow for about 5 minutes then the motor chokes out.
