Recorder plays DVD well but will not play a VHS tape. Does finalizing the disc have any affect on the VHS not playing?
SOURCE: I have the JVC DR-MV5 VHS/DVD Recorder and I have
1 Dvd slider should be on DVD.
2. Press SET UP to access main menu
3.Press left and right arrow keys to select DVD SETUP then press down arrow
4. Press left and right arrow keys to select UTILITY
5. Use arrow keys to select FINALIZE

The disk must be finalized. Instructions are on page 79 of the instruction booklet for the MV5S. I can't get the manual to download from the MVC site, but maybe it will work later. Hopefully you have the manual.
