What can you do to bypass and reset a forgotten passcode on an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad? You can't recover your passcode. Good news is that you may be able to reset the passcode by restoring the device.
A) Previously synced your iPhone/iPad with iTunes? If yes, then try the following:
- Connect your device to your computer that you normally sync it to, and thus contains the backup files.
- Launch iTunes.
- Select Back up by right-clicking (or Control-clicking) the device.
- After Back up is completed, select Restore and then restore from your most recent backup.
If iTunes prompts you to enter the passcode when you connect to your computer (*), or if the above does not work, try the following option.
B) If you did
not previously sync your iPhone/iPad with iTunes, then try following:
You need to force the phone into recovery mode and restore it as a new device to remove the passcode. To do this:
- Disconnect your device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch), but leave the USB cable connected to your computer.
- Turn off your device by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds.
- Launch iTunes.
- Press & hold the home button while reconnecting the USB cable to your device. Continue holding the home button until you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen; this will also cause the iPhone to turn on.
- You should see the "recovery mode" alert:
"iTunes has detected an iPhone (or iPad) in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad (or iPhone) before it can be used with iTunes."
Now that your device is in recovery mode, you must restore the device. You may either restore it to a previous point, or set it up as a new phone. This will wipe all files and settings, including the passcode. If you see a message stating that your phone is locked (*) and you need to enter your passcode, just ignore and close this message.
Note: Make sure that you are using the latest version of Itunes before attempting this.
