My Brother Embroidery machine is making a grinding noise, I have thoroughly cleaned the bobbin race area, threaded, and re-threaded it, changed thread, bobbins etc with no success. The handwheel appears to be jamming too. Any help to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you installed a brand-new needle? Usually, a bent or damaged needle will make strange noises. You can probably open the bobbin area and hand-rotate the handwheel and watch the needle action. Could be the needle/hook timing is off and the needle is nicking as it lowers to pick up the bobbin thread.
Loosen the top tension a little or tighten the bobbin tension ever so slightly. If that fails you can always color the bobbin threads with a magic marker the same color as the embroidery thread. You might go to Superior Thread's web site and try some prewound bobbins. They are worth their weight in gold. Dr. Bob knows all about all kinds of thread and is very good about answering questions. I think some of his Thread University videos are available too.
Completely unthread the top and bobbin threads. Clean any lint build up out of the bobbin race assembly using the little brush and some canned air. Check that the needle is inserted correctly...with the flat side towards the back. Then carefully rethread the top and the bobbin threads. Make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly...if it's backwards the machine won't sew properly.
I agree with sylviaivie about find another repairman, they are suppose to guarantee the work they do. when the upper shaft is replaced & then the machine is retimed the machine should work just fine. but just don't take it back to that man to be repaired here is a tip if it happens again,, always try to cut the top thread first, & turn the machine up on it's back to access the bottom cover take the cover off the bottom to get access to the bobbin thread where you can cut the bobbin thread then you should be able to get the needle out without breaking it & damaging the upper shaft, replace the needle & make sure that the thread is good quality & not knotty, clean out the bobbin area of lint or thread always change the needle on the embroidery machine every project make sure the bobbin area is kept clean of lint or thread clean under the needle plate at least once a week for lint if you embroidery everyday or just often
Take it in for service, hopefully it is still under warranty, I have sneaking suspician that your motor is causing the problem. I had a machine that did that and it turned out to be the motor.
make sure the bobbin thread is wound and installed correctly
remove tangled thread and clean lint out from under feed plate
clean and remove shuttle to clean out area with lint brush
inspect bobbin for burs and scratches...make sure when reinstalling shuttle and bobbin that it rotates freely
hope this helps
The "race" on your machine needs adjusting. Remove the bobbin cover, bobbin, & case. What you have left is the race, it moves when you turn the large wheel on the top right of machine. The needle also moves up and down. There is a hook on the race that catches the needle thread. Try moving the race to the line up with the needle. It may take a couple of trys but it should do the trick. Also clean any threads that may be caught on or arround the race. Hope this helps!
I am not sure where to oil my sewing machine at
