Have power but no picture on sony video camera

I have a Sony video camera that has power, sound and it plays tapes already recorded but when I go to record I have no picture on the screen. I can see a faint image on the screen and the record button works but no image. any ideas.

It seems problem with CCD Imager in camera.
Let me know model number of your Sony camera to help you more.

Sony has scheme of free repair of bad CCD Imager problem for many models that's why I want to know model number to guide you properly.
I will wait your response about model number.

I was trying to convert 8mm tapes that were recorded on the sony dcr-trv 720 to dvd using a dvd recorder. The camera will not play back the tapes. I borrowed another camera that plays the same 8mm tapes...

When recording it shows that it is recording but we can't see anything. If we play back what we think we might have recorded we can only hear the sound but not see anything.

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

IMPORTANT: If additional model-specific instructions are needed to perform any of the steps below, refer to the operating instructions of the camcorder. The instruction manual is available in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony eSupport Web site.

Ensure a fully-charged battery is inserted or connect the AC power adapter.
Turn the camera on to the VTR or PLAYBACK mode.
Insert a cassette tape with recorded video into the camcorder.
Ensure the cassette tape is rewound to the beginning of the video recording.
Begin playing the cassette tape.
If your camcorder has an LCD screen, try adjusting the brightness or contrast.
If there is still no picture on the LCD or viewfinder, reset the camcorder to factory specifications

Why wont it play LP taped tapes?

Tracking is very sensitive on hi-8 tapes in LP mode. This recorder will record and playback in LP mode. It is however recommended that if you record in LP mode that you use the same camera to play it back, that it was recorded with, or you might have problems.
Also from what I can find online, the TR427 is just an video8 camera not a Hi-8 so if you are trying to play Hi-8 tapes on it, it won't play right.
