How do I transfer vide from my Sony Handycam DCR-HC30E to my Laptop?

Hi Guys,

I have an Acer Laptop (with Firewire capability), to which I would like to transfer video captured using my Sony Handycam DCR-HC30E.

Please can you help me to identify what type of cable and software I need to source for this?

    Thanks nk_07! I'm afraid we dont have a manual, can it be downloaded from anywhere? Also, do you know what type of software I need on my Laptop?

Why do you need that **** software from Sony?If you have a firewire port on your computer and a firewire cable you can transfer your footage with Windows Movie Maker.In Movie Maker you can choose the DV-AVI option to preserve the full quality of your footage.Later you can use the DV-AVI in Virtual Dub/After Effects/Premiere for editing or encoding.

Hi, Check if it has the firewire port. If so, you can get a 4 pin firewire cable and connect to the PC and record/ download the videos using Windows Movie Maker.

4 pin firewire would look like this:

You can use the Movie maker to burn it to the Disk

Hi,
You need not have a CD.
Check if the cam has the firewire port. If so, you can get a 4 pin firewire cable and connect to the PC.
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.
