Restoring iPhone Hi. While restoring my iPhone (2G), and after a while that the iPhone screen shows a cable to be connected to iTunes icon, iPhone starts booting and rebooting again and again. Meanwhile, iTunes is downloading the iPhone Software Update which is 162 MB. I have turned off the iPhone while it is connected to the computer and while the download has not yet been completed. Does it interrupt the restoring process or I am allowed to turn my iPhone off while it is connected to the USB port and the Software Update is being downloaded in iTunes? Please help me restore my iPhone. I have jailbroken the iPhone, then after facing continues reboots, I decided to restore it using iTunes. Will my iPhone be the same as before or it is hurt? Restoring the iPhone 4S will erase everything on it, so make sure everything on the iPhone 4S is stored elsewhere prior to restoring. To restore, connect your iPhone 4S to a computer with iTunes installed. Click "Restore" on the iPhone 4S summary page (click on your iPhone icon on the left menu to find this page). Follow the directions to restore. If your iPhone 4S displays the text "Please wait. Very Low Battery," leave it plugged in. This charges the iPhone 4S enough to be able to restore. If the iPhone 4S hangs on this screen for long periods of time, you may need a new battery.

Force restore mode

If your iPhone 4S is hanging with an Apple logo, or exhibiting some other software problem that prevents iTunes from recognizing it, you can force it into recovery/restore mode and then use iTunes to restore the software.
If the device is powered off, plug one end of your USB cable into the iPhone 4S and leave the other end disconnected. Press down on the Home button, and keep holding it down while you plug the USB cable into your computer. After 5-10 seconds, you should see a "Please Connect to iTunes" image on the iPhone 4S, and iTunes should prompt you to restore the software; follow the prompts and the instructions given above.
If the device is powered on, hold down both the power and home buttons until the device reboots and displays the "Connect to iTunes" image (generally, 5-15 seconds).

i would be checking the usb lead before doing anything or even replacing it with a new one make sure iis securely connected
the cable near the iTunes symbol represents a problem with the cable
and the cd will not not be able to activate without a connection

Connect one end of the USB sync cable to one of your computer's unused USB ports, and connect the other end to the bottom of the iPhone or iPod Touch.

If iTunes does not start on its own, run it using the desktop or Start menu shortcut.

When iTunes starts, you should see an icon for the iPhone or iPod Touch on the left side of the window.

Click "Summary" in the right pane of the window if it is not already active.

Click the "Restore" button to begin the device restoration process.

ITunes displays a message asking if you want to save the contents of the device to your computer before restoring it.

If you have not backed up the device already, click the "Back Up" button.

If you have already done this, click "Don't Back Up."

Click "Restore." ITunes clears the data from your iPhone or iPod Touch and reinstalls the device's original firmware.

The screen of your iPhone or iPod Touch may shut off while iTunes works.

Do not remove the USB sync cable.

When iTunes is done restoring the device, it displays a message letting you know that the device is about to restart.

Click "OK" to restart the device. If you are restoring an iPhone or iPod touch, wait for the "iPhone / iPod touch is activated" message to appear on the screen of the device before you disconnect it from the computer.

You may now restore your backup of the device or remove it from the computer.

Hey Chee, Usually an iphone with liquid damage may cause damage to internals that may go unnoticed if it is able to work. Depending on the error message you get when restoring with itunes may mean different things.

• 1604 is just to check your usb cable to make sure its directly (not through a hub) connected to a usb 2.0

• 1611 and 23 are usually hardware issues that cannot be solved with a restore

Take off back cover , remove battery and blow with hair dryer.

Have you tried holding the power button and the home button on the front for around 10secs?

Try this, the Apple logo should appear and get the phone to boot up.

If that doesnt work, boot up your computer and make sure you have the most recent version of itunes on it and then hold down the home button on the front of the phone while plugging into your computer and keep holding down the home button until you get a message on itunes saying an iphone has been detected in recovery mode. Then release the button and restore your iphone as a new iphone

**** Because your phone wont power on and it has been restarted this way you need to restore as a new iphone to get it to work again meaning you will loose any info on the phone ****

Make sure you update your phones software its most likely a factor to your phone shutting itself down.

Ive put the details below on how to restore your iphone, while restoring it will automatically update it for you - (after holding the home button and receiving the message on itunes follow the restore info)

1. Select the Restore option.
2. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up option (as seen in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.

try restoring the phone back to factory settings but hold down home button while plugging it in to itunes it should hopefully kickstart it into recovery mode..you cant get it to restore it may just been down to hardware issues in the phone, after all it is a 2g...you could also try getting an appointment in an apple store if you have no luck restoring and resolving problem but make sure you dont say youve opened the phone up.

Try restoring it...here's how...

1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.
3. Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB to iPhone, the device should then power on.
   
   Note: If you see the message "Charging... Please Wait" , let the device charge for at least 10 minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo.
5. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button andiTuneswill display the recovery mode message:
   
   If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then disconnect the USB cable from iPhone and repeat steps 3-6.

After this you'll need to jailbreak it too....

Ok, what you need to do is a full restore and unlock again. First you need to get it in Recovery Mode so the computer can read it. Press power and home buttons while connected VIA USB till you get the message in the Itunes that you need to restore, then restore and unlock.
