Make sure the chuck is loose then clamp the drill bit in the vice and give the drill a straight pull ,once its out then put some engine oil down the chuck and let it soak in ,not that fish oil spray stuff .

How to fix a out of round drill press chuck (ToolKraft 350B

The chuck could be threaded like an average power drill.

Respectable drill presses use a hollow quill shaft that is likely to be machined into a taper that is likely to be number 1, 2 or 3 Morse taper.

Morse taper drill bits are used a lot - the shank is tapered and will grip and drive when inserted into the quill with just a small force. When the bit is to be removed the quill is turned by hand until a slot in the quill lines up with a slot in the housing and a wedge-shaped steel tool is slid in and tapped breaking the taper fit.

Most such drill presses are supplied with a chuck for light duty drilling already mounted. The chuck is often a Jacobs type mounting by means of a Jacobs taper onto a Morse taper adaptor.
The adaptor is tapered at both ends - at the lower end the taper is steep and the chuck must be pressed on with some force. The upper end will have the same gentle taper of the Morse taper drill bits and is removed in the same way.

Using the chuck drilling is limited to the capacity of the chuck, typically 1/2" or 5/8" unless blacksmith's drill bits are used that have stepped shanks.
Morse taper drill bits will allow heavy duty drilling far in excess of the chuck capacity.

Hopefully your problem is caused by the chuck rather than a bent quill.

I am going to have to drill the lock on the ignition switch on my 2002 pt cruiser, in order replace the ignition, not one of my best ideas but I cant afford a locksmith or dealer. Any way around this?

before you drill it tap the end of the lock cylinder where the key goes in with the handle end of a large screwdriver. try different levels of force and then insert the key and try to turn. 90% of the time you can get the lock cylinder to turn with this method. the key needs to be in the accessory position to release the lock mechanism that holds the lock cylinder in place.

You should be able to see the lock button on the underside of the column with the trim panels removed. This piece can be drilled out a lot easier than the lock cylinder. A good center punch and a small bit to start and then increase the bit size until most of it is removed. You can then use a pick to remove the rest of the button and the lock cylinder will slide out.

Sds bit snapped in my makita bhr200 chuck.on taking the drill apart, the chuck is on a gear rod,and wont allow me to push the chuck down

You have to remove the striker bolt from inside the spindle first. to do this remove the internal circlip (not always easy) then you can tap the striker bolt out and then press the broken bit out.

I have a DEWALT DC920 drill-driver and have a bit stuck in the chuck. The chuck adjuster appears to be stripped. Need to remove the bit and replace the chuck. Any ideas on how to get the bit released?

try tapping on all sides of the chuck lightly with a hammer and wiggling the bit... you can also try to spray some oil into the chuck and see if that loosens the bit for you... You can also clamp the bit in a vise (or get someone with a pair of pliers) and pull, that will sometimes do the trick.

CAN'T REMOVE DRILL BIT. I TRIED USING A VICE, WD40 ETC. STILL CANT REMOVE

I have used 2 channel lock pliers on both keyed and keyless chucks to break the chuck loose. just make sure you are going in the right direction. grab the chuck with one and the base with the other. always works for me..

I have a Makita HP1621f Drill, and I cannot get the drill bit out, seems like the chuck itself is bad,any ideas on how to remove the drill bit?

Sometimes if you happen to have the right size bit, it will stick into the bolt that holds the chuck on if the chuck wasn't tight enought to keep it from slipping further into the chuck. Clamp drill bit in vice and tap chuck with soft hammer to pull it free.

We are trying to remove the lock cylinder to replace, but can only get the key in halve way. It is a 2001 Daewoo Lanos. Already have the new one, we are worried about damaging the column and leary about...

you need key in and in on position to remove barrel while pressing in lock pin (in hole) in column if cant get key in or turn drill out barrel with under sized drill bit and slowly go up in drill bit size until you can dig out and remove barrel, lock smiths can come to site and do these type of repairs if needed.

Chuck loosens

Chucks ARE meant to stay tight.
You also use drill to UNSCREW THINGS.
