Blank line through display

Sounds like you have a clogged drain. Drain is draining enough to clear the float switch, unit comes on produces water, water backs up and trips the float switch again therefore killing power to the tstat. Shop vac the drain line!

What is the model number of your unit?

i would try and see if the fuse is blown in unit ... normally behind control panel there is a in line 20 amp fuse that may have blown.... if the unit makes noises when you touch the buttons but no display then you have a bad control board assembly

If you install this unit then I suggest that you unplug unit then remove motor shroud and inspect the lower board connection then, remove the upper console check all connections. If you are able or someone else can plug in unit then start it without walking see if the display blanks out in those 4 mins then if it does then tap on the console to see if the display will show the functions.If not call the place that you purchased the unit or call the manufacturer directly you they should send you another display.

jackperson, Might be internal problem with the units power supply (ac line in to DC conversion) having shutdown issues. You will need to do some reading in my fixya profile for a while and then you will know what to look for inside unit. If not into electronic repair stuff, skip the reading and trade-in unit for new, if current unit is 4, 5, 6 years old. 12fixlouie

Yes, this problem has been caused by the launch of a new satellite earlier this year. As soon as your unit gets a fix from the new satellite, it causes this problem. Simple immediate fix: disable WAAS in the setup. Permanent fix: go to Garmin website and update your unit's software and it will fix this temporary problem. I think replacement of the face unit is needed. the LED's that illuminate my have been pixelated through sun exposure. Replacement necessary.

Your display is blank because the LCD unit is bad and needs to be replaced.

OK, here's what happened. I had the same issue of the phone resetting when a call came in, I thought it was a power issue and through some testing it was not. Here's the fix...Menu \ system settings \ enter pin (if you haven't changed it it is 0000) scroll to factory default and reset. This fixed the problem somehow for me, make sure to write down any impotant messages because it will erase everyting (silly me). I hope this helps.
