You will need to look into the possible chance that your evaporator Fan motor has stopped, been damaged or the freezer is not defrosting properly. To allow it to continue running can damage the compressor. Click Here=> MFD2560HES Evaporator Components then 12002744 Evaporator Fan Motor and again the 67002493 Defrost Heater I have all the instructions and hands on if you would like my assistance I will be here to assist and repair you Maytag That ticking noise could have been your fan blade finally reaching the frost until the fan stopped. Let me know Here or or here on Fixya, Thanks, Sea Breeze

How does a side by side domestic fridge work

New side by side layout is fridge side by side upper 2/3, with lower 1/3 pull out freezer
Normally in modern frost free systems only the freezer has the evap, and the fridge thermostat operates a duct, allowing freezer air to blow into the fridge.
The compressor runs until the freezer is satified, the thermostat powering the compressor is only connected to the freezer. If the fridge requires cooling but not the freezer, there's plenty of freezer air to circulate into the fridge after the compressor has turned off. Eventually the cmpressor will start again when the freezer temp gets too high.

On twin evap models, the fridge fan motor cuts out when the fridge gets to it's setpoint, so no air circulation through the fridge evap, though liquid refrigerant flows through it to the freezer evap. Likewise, if the fridge needs cooling but not the freezer, then the compressor will start but the freezer fan motor will not run.

Old school cyclic defrost systems had the thermostat in the fridge, and the freezer kept running until the fridge coil was low enough to make the fridge cabinet down to temp.

FRIDGE TO WARM MODEL ED22DWXTNOO

It's a circulation problem so either the fan in the back of the freezer(circulates freezer and blows cold into fridge) or the defrost element. If the element is faulty the rear ices up and air won't flow. If fan is faulty it's not blowing the cold air. Remove rear panel if no ice it's the fan if its full of ice it needs the defrost element(usually get termination sensor also depending on type) If you open the freezer door and hold in the doorswitch you should hear the fan running if its working.

Fridge isn't staying cold, the freezer works OK.

if your freezer is working fine and you hear your compressor running you could have a frozen drain tube or more than likely the evaperator motor fan has failed.this is the fan that circulates the cold air from freezer throughout frigerator.what kind of unit is it?side by side or top mount freezer or what?let me know

I bought a Zanussi ZF4 fridge/freezer second hand about two weeks ago. When I installed it I made sure that it was left to stand for 12 hours before turning on and that it was cleaned thoroughly. The unit...

It is possible that it is the thermostat, and if not as you hear the compressor starting shortly then stopping, and redoing that many times.
Your compressor is certainly out of order and must be replaced by a professional, that means to dessolder the current compressor, and replace it with the new one, and change the gas.
So major intervention and at least 2 hours of work.
In the end, you will have a new heart for this great fridge.

Running fine but blowing warm air

"it seems to work fine but will not get cold"
Not sure how it can work fine and is not cold. When you say work fine, is the light on and the freezer fan blowing but is the compressor running?

Unplug the Ref and wait about 30 min or so, plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start running. You should be behind the Ref to hear this. If you don't hear it start running then you may hear a clicking noise. This clicking is a problen with the compressor start relay. If the compressor runs but still is not cold then it could be low on coolant.
