Hi,

My name is Ben and I'm your guru, i.e., mentor, an influential teacher or popular expert: a management guru. - origin from Sanskrit, 'weighty, grave' for today.

As you evaluate my advise. solutions and suggestions, there are a few things you must keep in mind:

• I did not diagnose your problem and am therefore only able to evaluate what you tell me. For example, if you ask me a fuse location, that doesn't mean that I can tell you the reason why the fuse blew. I can only react to the information that you provide. So please judge my suggestions accordingly.
• A thorough diagnostic approach involves the use of technical equipment, such as voltage meters. scanning equipment and other sophisticated devices. Diagnostic tools can be borrowed from AutoZone for FREE:
• Lastly, fixing one problem can very easily reveal a problem with something that you might consider unrelated. If that happens, you might want to view me as being incompetent.

Your description of the problem: car started and stalled, 3 times and then will not start at all. ? possible security system but do not know how to reset at home, or do I have it towed to a dodge dealership?

First: You don't indicate any diagnostic tests to date. A dealer or your local mechanic will charge $100-$200 to perform a diagnostic scan. However, AutoZone will provide a thorough scan for FREE or you can buy a code reader for about $30. Anyone who tells you that a modern vehicle can be diagnosed without a scanner with the problems you have set forth is merely guessing. You car has a computer and memory and probably knows exactly what the problem is. That on-board computer is just waiting for you to ask, "What's wrong".

However, if you believe that your problem is with the security system, read the following carefully.

Please don't even think about trying to disarm your anti-theft system because there is an easier solution. I'm assuming that you don't have the full Shop Service Manual. If you do, then you know that a shop manual costs at least $100.

So why did I say: Don't even think about it? Your anti-theft device is capable of causing problems that you don't want to deal with. If you have the dealer do the job, the cost can be prohibitive. The anti-theft device tells the on-board computer to shut off the fuel flow and to disengage the starter circuitry.

SOLUTION: Go on eBay and buy an anti-theft bypass module for $10-$20 depending on the year and make of your vehicle.

All the best

Ben

I looked your security system, it said starter motor disable. It will probably also disable your fuel injectors. If security system has a problem, you may need a scanner that can communicate with your security system. Also, sometimes when battery voltage is lost, some modules may need to be reprogrammed. Are there any applicable trouble codes?
You can check the basics, spark at the plugs, proper fuel pressure, compression.

1998 infinity security light came on and car wont start, went home and got the remote and still no go, what could it be ?

Some times by locking and unlocking the drivers door on certain models with the key will reset the system. Have you tried a different key to see if it will recognize it and possibly start. Some times disconnecting the battery for 30 sec may help also

1988 s15 jimmy starts fine but stalls out

Stalls out when and how? At start up would be security. Do a reset. Turn it on, let it set for 10 minutes off or 30 seconds. Then try to start. relearn is do this three times with out the start up. After three times try to start. 4.3 engines have a problem with distributors also. the gear is junk. Though I haven't seen then to kill the engine, it wouldn't surprise me. Need to know when it stalls..

Reset security system

To review - the factory VATS security system will not let the engine crank or start if the wrong key is used or there is a problem with the system.
So if the engine was cranking the security system was not at fault.
You may have to get a used shop manual to get the testing procedures for a no start-stall problem.

If the security light is on, it can only be one thing. This light indicates a failure in the antitheft system that will eventually lead to your car refusing to start or continue running. Here is a link with alot of info, plus ways to beat this problem.

I lost all power in a 2005 Trailblazer. Called GM and they said to kick the key forward and wait 10 min, and this would reset it. It did but now the radio A/C door locks and windows don't work. What...

Do it three times in a row.

1. Perform a security system relearn.
2. Let the vehicle sit for more than 10 minutes with the key off.
3. Attempt to start the engine, leave the key in the run position monitoring the security system indicator.
4. After 10 minutes, the security indicator will change state.
5. Turn the key off and wait 10 seconds.
6. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
7. After the second 10 minute timer has expired, turn the key off for 10 seconds.
8. Attempt to start the engine. If the engine stalls, wait another 10 minutes with the key on.
9. After the 3rd 10 minute timer has expired, shut the key off for 10 seconds.
10. The security system will relearn on the 4th starting attempt and the engine should start and run.

The van will start and run for about 2 seconds and quit i changed fuel pump, filter, distubitor, cam and crank sensors and module

Gm vehicles have been known to have faulty anti theft security systems. One of the symtoms of this is when your vehicle starts for 1-5 seconds and then stalls. A good way to know if this is the problem is when you see a light on the dash that says SECURITY. If you see this light flashing or on solid, this explains the van not starting. You need to reset the Passlock security system to your Tahoe.

1. Attempt to start the car, let it stall, but DO NOT turn the key off! Leave it in RUN.
2. Wait 10 minutes or until the Theft System light glows steady instead of blinking.
3. Do not turn the key off, but start it immediately.
4. This should reset your Passlock system.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

If that does not work then your may have to do the 30 min relearn. You do basically the 10 min thing with the security light trick instructions above. Here goes this only works if your secuity light is on.

Put key in ignition don't start the car but you want to turn the key all the way on and release it back to the on position wait 10 mins or till the security light stops flashing repeat this the exact same way two more times( dont take key out) ending in about 30 mins total time. this should reset the code to the computer and you should have no more problems with it.

How do you reset the passlock

1. Attempt to start the car, let it stall, but DO NOT turn the key off! Leave it in RUN.
2. Wait 10 minutes or until the Theft Sys light glows steady instead of blinking.
3. Do not turn the key off, but start it immediately.
4. This should reset your Passlock system.

If this doesn't reset the system then there is a "hard fault" and u will need to have the dealer scan the security system for faults.
