could be either one. Have you tried another battery? If not I would recommend taking BOTH in for inspection. They have a scanner that can detect if the battery has a problem. Don't know for sure but most batterys are made for each kind of drill.

I had to replace the variable trigger on my 3/8 Black and Decker as the trigger failed and would not start the drill.Maybe you have the sme problem as many B&D drills have the same variable trigger.

There are a few different tapers used on drill chucks but they are pretty standardized: you don't need the black and decker part, you just need a standard chuck of the correct taper. try to get a basic Jacobs chuck they will last much longer than the one it came with.

generally on a larger drill press the spindle is a taper fit. What you would need to do is clean the taper and the socket thoroughly with break clean or something with will air dry. Then take a block of wood and place it on the chuck with the jaws retracted and hit the piece of wood to seat the taper socket.
