Logitech Harmony 880 remote control repair for volume and channel buttons

This article contains troubleshooting instructions for when pressing a button (ie. Volume or Direction) on a Harmony remote causes the device to respond more than once per button press.

Was it working before?  Is it possible you selected the wrong brand of TV when programming the remote?  Do you use a cable box or satellite dish with your TV (in other words, do you change channels by changing the channel on the TV, or on the digital box connected to your TV)?

I had the same problem on my 676. I split the casing and cleaned the contacts and the bottom of the buttons with isopropyl alchohol about a month ago. Works fine now.

Sometimes you need to go into the menu page for the device that doesn't work and you need to "learn" the keys to the new remote. "Learn" meaning pressing the buttons on your original remote with the Infrared part of the remote facing the Infrared part of the new remote. This will help the Harmony remote duplicate the signal to the device you want to operate.
