This is due to the fact that the safety tab on the tape is not present or is switched to lock . This is to prevent accidental recording on the tape. However if you had tried with a new tape and the fault seems to come then the fault can be that the trigger switch on this detector circuit is shorted or is accidently pressed to be ON. You can remove the tape cover and check this switch , if not there is fault on the controller section .

I just bought the olympus X-42 and it took pictures fine. Then I uploaded them onto my computer. After that I wanted to take more pictures and now it says, "Write Protected" I looked at the instructions on...

This is almost always a setting with the "write protect" or "lock / unlock" tab on the SD or SDHC memory card itself - and is easily remedied. Remove the memory card from the camera if it isn't already, and look along the left edge of the card. Find a small tab and slide it forward (to the unlock position) and carefully slip the card back into the camera and try again. If it reports locked again, carefully remove the card to see if the tab has moved back to the locked position.

In exteme cases: If the tab is moving to the locked position during the insertion process, you could place a small amount of tape along the card edge - over the tab - and carefully insert the card again. You might have to remove some tape to allow the card to fit into to slot. If you never lock the card - you could put a very small drop of super glue on the tab to hold it in place. Wait for the glue to set completely before inserting into the camera.

Canon powershot a470 card locked

This is nearly always an indication of an issue with the memory card, not the camera. I have had a similar problem with flimsy lock tabs on memory cards myself. I solved it by placing a small amount of scotch tape over the tab - starting near the connection pads, over the tab to the back edge of the card. There's usually not a whole lot of extra room in the slot, so insert carefully and remove portions of tape as needed.

Worst case scenario - if you never use the locking tab (I never do) you could place a small dab of super glue to hold it in place. Let it "set up" before reinserting - you don't want the tab to move an be held on the lock position.

The tab may very well become repositioned as it is being inserted into the camera, and then repositioned again when it is removed. If the tab is loose, it will probably be nearly impossible to determine with any certainty how and when it is occurring, unless it is prevented from moving with tape or glue described above.

I hope you found this Very Helpful and good luck!

When I try to take a picture my camera will not take the picture and a message keeps poping up saying that my memort card is protected. Why is it doing this and how can I fix this?

The problem *may* be that the memory card is defective - but is it much more likely that the card is simply "locked" (or "protected") You can check for this by removing the memory card from the camera if it isn't already, and look along the left edge of the card. Find a small tab and slide it forward (to the unlock position) and carefully slip the card back into the camera and try again. If it still reports that it is protected, carefully remove the card to see if the tab has moved back to the locked position. It is possible that if the tab is moved when inserting the card, it could just as easily be moved back when removing, too - so it may not looked like it moved.

Either way, if the tab is moving (or suspected to be be moving) to the locked position during the insertion and the unlocked position during the withdrawal process, you could place a small amount of tape along the card edge - over the tab - and carefully insert the card again (you might have to remove some tape to allow the card to fit into to slot, depending how much room there is). If you never lock the card (I never do); you could put a very small drop of super glue on the tab to hold it in place. Wait for the glue to set completely before inserting into the camera and try again.

If this fails, you should try again with a different card.

I hope this helps!

JVC Camcorder Model # GR-D270U

I thought this was a camera issue, but it ended up being a tape issue. So it shouldn't matter if you have the same model of the JVC mini camcorder as I did or not. Anyway, the tape has a tab that "locks" the tape to keep from recording over it accidently. I moved that tab and it started working. If your tape is stuck in the camera, you may have lost the tape already. Try to get it out of the camera without damaging the tape or the camera...more importantly the camera. You may have to take it to a professional to prevent damage. If you get it out undamaged, check to see if the tape is locked or not. Move the tab and try the tape in the camera again (unless you're afraid of it getting stuck again). In that case, try it in another camera. That's how I discovered that this was a tape issue rather than a camera issue...because I tried the same tape in a different camera and got the same error message. Don't despair if your tape comes out with part of it sticking out or crumpled, as long as it's not broken, you can salvage it. Even if it's broken, you can probably salvage the majority of the tape by taping it back together (call a professional, you may need special tape for this), just don't touch any of the undamaged tape or pull it out of the cassette too far and all you will lose is the damaged portion. I actually couldn't see the tab well enough to tell if it was in locked or unlocked mode since it's so tiny and my close-up vision is getting blurry, but I moved the tab to opposite of what it was and that seemed to do the trick. My mistake was in trying to save money with the cheaper tapes...next time I'll spend a little extra for the better tapes to avoid all this headache. Hope this helped. Have a great day!
