How to perform System Restore on Windows XP

This is helpful if you want to resolve a corrupted file or uncorrect update configuration issue; an error causing you to not be able to upload your OS: or something causing your system to run slowly.

To upload System Restore:

1. Click the Windows logo or press it on your keyboard.

2. The quickest way to find this is to type "System Restore" in the search box.

3. Once the System Restore link is shown, click it.

4. If User Account Control (UAC) asks you (the administrator) to give it permission, click Continue.

5. The System Restore menu comes up and asks you if you want to either use the recommended restore point or a different restore point of your choosing. I would choose the most updated restore point if possible (ususally the "Recommended restore" one).

6. Click Next>

7. Click Finish to confirm your restore point. You will need to close any open programs or files before doing so because your computer will be restarted.

First, try to perform a system restore on your computer. System restore can help to back date your computer to the time when the browser was working. It will revert changes made on your computer.

Go to Start > All programs > Accessories > System tools > System restore. Read and follow instructions on the system restore page before proceeding.

Your computer will be restarted after the system restore is completed. Thereafter, you can try to open your browser.

• Then click on Accessories
• Click on System tools Then

• System Restore window appears
• Then check this option
• Restore my computer to an earlier time.

• Click on date where you want to restore your system then click on next.

2.1) LAUNCH WINDOWS TASK MANAGER.
2.2) End wgatray.exe Process In Task Manager.
2.3) Restart System In Safe Mode.
2.4) Delete wgatray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
2.5) Delete wgatray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
2.6) Launch RegEdit.
2.7) Browse the following key HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWSNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify.
2.8) Delete The Folder "WgaLogon" and all of its component.
2.9 ) Reboot System.

3.0) BE HAPPY NOW.... AND NEVER EVER INSTALL WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE NOTIFICATION IN WINDOWS UPDATE OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO REPEAT THE DAMN PROCESS AGAIN.

First of all, AVG has always had a problem installing when windows updates are enabled and download and install automatically. I would recommend uninstalling all updates that have been installed to your computer and disable automatic updates which I will explain to you below

To uninstall the updates.
Click start, settings and click control panel.
On the icon add and remove programs, please double click
You will now see all the programs and updates installed on your computer. The microsoft updates are located near to the bottom of the list and there may be a lot of them installed. You can only uninstall one update at a time. You may be prompted that uninstalling a windows update may cause a program not to work properly, this is normal so you can continue uninstalling them. When you have uninstalled these updates please restart your computer.

To disable the automatic updates

Right click on your icon My computer or My pc which is located on the desktop or on the start menu (if you are running windows xp) and select properties
You will then see a sub menu called 'Automatic updates' and inside this menu you will have the choice to disable the updates

If you are using windows xp and you have system restore enabled on your computer, then you will be able to take the computer back to an earlier time when it was working correctly. Regarding your problem about your desktop disappearing, to restore your icons on the desktop, right click anywhere on the desktop and select organise icons and be sure that the heading 'show desktop icons' is ticked. This will restore your desktop items
