1. You can Restore windows.

Windows Restore Steps

• Click on All Programs
• Then click on Accessories
• Click on System tools Then
• Click on System Restore.
• System Restore window appears
• Then check this option
• Restore my computer to an earlier time.
• Click on next
• Click on date where you want to restore your system then click on next.
• And the Restore wizard will start.
• After sometime the computer will restart.

I take it you mean you have installed XP. Have you also installed the drivers for your laptop? To check if any drivers are needed do the following

Right click My Computer (if it's not on your screen click start first)
Select properties/Hardware/device manager. Anything with a questiion mark next to it needs drivers installed.

If you don't have a drivers disk you'll have to download them from the manufacturers site.

if that doesnt work, go to start menu, and then select "run"
type in "dxdiag" and click on the sound tab and and look at the box labeled "device"...it should say something like "name". google whatever it says the name is +drivers...so if the name is "sigmatel audio", type in "sigmatel audio+drivers" into google and look for the official site of the sound device and download the drivers.

see my friend as you are upgrading so you need.
vista itself finds its drivers existing in computer.
so thats is why your sound card is searching for drivers.no need to worry . install the drivers.
