Manual for taco clock timer 265

I was having the same problem and came accross these instructions. The following link is a PDF file. The first page relates to an analog timer and the following pages relate to a more advanced digital one. Good luck.

Clock does not rotate

If clock does not rotate, then check if outlet has power. Check for loose wires.
If clock rotated before and stopped working, then clock motor might have gone bad.

Replacement clock: Taco timer uses the FM1 timer module.
Voltage and timer information appear on back of timer.

Open following links to identify timer and model number:
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/FM1-5-image.gif
http://www.intermatic.com/products/ec%204%20layer/mechanical%20time%20switches/modular%20din%20rail%20timers/fm1%20series%20-%2024%20hour%20and%207%20day.aspx

For example Taco timer module is 24 hour, and 120Volts, and doesn't have battery back-up.
-If timer has on-off-timer switch, then model number is FM1STUZH-120U
-If timer does not have on-off-timer switch, then model number is FM1STUZ-120U

Have a taco 24 hr

Your question is very big because recirculation systems have a lot of parts and options.

Please open following link for re-circulation system resources that show pictures of how the system works. After reading information, add a comment with more questions.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html
The page shows two different types of Taco timers. One timer is programmable and the other timer is called analog timer where the timer dial rotates just like a clock. Small pins located on dial face are set inward or outward. As the dial rotates, the pins move a tiny on-off lever that turns the pump on-off. The pump can also be set to operate thermostatically. You choose either timed operation or thermostatic operation using slide-switch located under timer dial.

Look at, and read information on link above. Try some things on your timer so you are familiar. And then add a comment with specific description of your Taco timer, and include what you have done so far.

My Taco Time Clock 265

Yes it should be easy to replace.
The manual appears on following link:
http://www.taco-hvac.com/uploads/FileLibrary/102-067A.pdf

'Analog' timer has dial face that rotates as time passes, the 'digital' timer has programming buttons.

The manual seems very straightforward.
Turn power off, connect wires, set timer.

Of course what seems simple to experts who do wiring each day, may not seem simple to person asking question. So add a comment with specific detailed question if you need help.

I want to reset the

1) Open following link to read about re-circulation systems:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

2) Image below show typical FM1 analog timer dial with pins:
Move pins with fingernail or small tool.
To test if pins need to be moved in or out, set pins each direction and manually rotate dial clockwise and listen when pump turns on-off.
How timer operates: clock motor rotates dial continually, pins on dial move lever that turns circuit on-off.
To set current time, manually rotate dial clockwise until current time lines up with arrowhead located on inner dial.
Some timers have a selector switch: move switch to Auto, or Timer, or Timer ON. Again you can manually rotate dial and check which setting is correct.

The hot water recirc pump in my new house was

1) Open link below so we are talking about same type of household system
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

2) 15 minute interval is misleading.
Pins located on timer dial divide 24-hour day into 15 minute intervals.
You set timer pins and decide which 15 minute intervals you want ON-or-OFF. Do this by moving pins inward or outward with your thumb or ink pen. To check settings, manually rotate timer dial clockwise and listen for pump turning on-off..
Set timer pins for 4 consecutive 15 minute intervals, then timer runs for 1 hour.
After pins are set, then manually rotate dial to set current time.
Dial rotates as time passes, and pins click a lever that turns pump on-off.

3) 5-year Life span. Like all things plumbing, if you have hard water or sand-n-dirt in water lines, then pipes clog. And pumps clog.
Once motor begins to slow down, it overheats and burns out.
Water softener can keep sediment out of lines, but shortens life of water heater.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Clean-sediment-out-of-water-heater.html

4) Real question: do you need a circulation pump? Do you need hot water at your faucet? Can you schedule hot water use, or does recirculation pump have to run several hours per day?
Recirculation pumps causes water heater to run more, the pump consumes 25+ watts depending on pump, and water savings claims of 15,000 gallons per year are fabrication.
Realistic water savings is 700-2000 gallons per year, assuming several folks in the home use water sporadically across a full day, and each time water is used people are waiting for hot water. It also assumes that you never want cold water at the tap and that refrigeration ice maker line prefers hot water to cold.

I have this timer hooked up onto my water heater

I think you have a grundfos recirculation pump.
This is not a water heater timer.
For illustration of grundfos system, open link below.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html
Recirculation system is electric, but it also causes gas water heater to run more.
Unplug grundfos for a couple months to see if gas bill goes down. Your system will revert to regular water heater.

Many things can cause high gas bill. Make inventory of gas-consuming appliances: dryer, oven, stove, heater, water heater. Then inventory how often these appliances are used. Each appliance has a label with BTU listed. Add up BTUs of all appliances and compare with BTUs shown on gas bill. Call gas company about how to cut back.
Gas water heaters can become inefficient. So can any gas appliance. Look at flame inside water heater when it turns on. If flame is yellow instead of clear blue, that indicates the water heater is inefficient, and burner needs to be cleaned, or heater needs replacement or maintenance.
Call plumber for assessment and then post a question on the Tank to double check anything plumber says:
http://www.thetankatwaterheaterrescue.com/forums/forum3/

More information about circulation system:
Notice that illustrations show a pump located under the sink.
It sounds like you have same pump located at water heater.
Both types are same thing.
The purpose is to circulate hot water to your faucet so you don't have to wait for hot water when turning faucet ON. Instead, you have to wait for cold water.

The timer located on grundfos dial determines when pump turns ON.
Link above has illustration showing how to set timer pins using your thumb or ink pin or nail file (women know nail files, so I'm relating here).
To set timer, rotate dial until current time lines up with mark. The dial rotates as time passes and has to be reset after power outage.
If dial does not rotate, then timer is broken, but it sounds like pump is still working, and running full time which is wasteful.
Next, move the pins to set on-off times. Move pins inward, the pump is ON. Pins outward, pump is off.

I have a taco hot water circulator. the timer does not seem to work, it works on continuous. If I leave it on continuous, will it harm anything or cost a lot in electricity to hace it on 24-7?

Some of these re-circulation pumps have 2 settings, automatic and timed.. automatic for thermostat control, and timer for timed operation. The electric cost varies .... $14-18 for 1 year continuous operation. The pump does not harm anything if left ON ... except shorten lifespan of product so you would also calculate replacement cost... ... However you can buy a thermostat that clips onto the pipe to turn the electric power on and off. Specs and manual shown following link: http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html#clip If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/gene_9f0ef4df2f9897e7
