what is wrong with it? If it is dead usually there is nothing that can be done, if it is melted you can try cleaning the contacts and looking for a loose connection. Let me know and I will try and help

I have 4 Milwaukee 28v

Your batteries are at the end of their rope and need to be replaced. All batteries die, some sooner, some later. And if you do not maintain them in a manner consistent with directions they will fail sooner!

I have just purchesed some

Sorry to say that you probably have fried the charger and maybe any battery that you plugged into it.

While you might get lucky and be able to repair the charger yourself, they are considered sealed units that aren't intended to be opened up for repair. My advice would be to replace the charger instead of trying to fix it. But if you do open it up, what components you find inside (transformer, caps, etc) will probably be easily identifiable by the blackened leads.

My ex-wife who was Russian, plugged my mothers vacuum into a 220v heater outlet and although I did manage to repair it, I would have been money and time ahead to replace it instead of spending the time and money to repair it myself.

I have a $750 dollar

Yes. Batteries are always consumable items, and the manufacturer has no control over the usage profile of the owner.

The only exception is if the unit is relatively new and the batteries have had few duty cycles. The batteries or the charger may then be faulty. The manufacturer might then have a limited warranty but will require the goods for inspection first.

The battery you refer to is a modern Lithium Ion type, they are lightweight, powerful and fast charging but also very intolerant of rough handling or incorrect charging and MUST only ever be charged on a compatible charger. They are also still an immature technology, so premature failures are not uncommon.

BTW, you can get those same batteries for half the price, currently $148.53 with free shipping.

Why my 28v doesn't fully charge

One or more cells of the battery have gone bad. The technique of measuring the state of charge of the battery is VERY limited.

I would recommend letting the battery cool after charging... THEN in a day, charge it again without using it. Do this for several days and see if the battery improves. If not, time for new battery.

DO NOT discharge these batteries beyond the point where the tool starts to slow down. You will reverse charge the weakest cell from the ones still deliveing power and the reverse charge will permanently damage the weakest cell.

I charge my batteries but

Your batteries no longer hold charge as deeply as they once were capable. Typical symptom of rechargeable batteries. You need to replace them.

Battery smoked during charging. How do I fix?

If your battery smoked, one or more of the cells inside burned up or shorted out. Unfortunately there is no way to fix a battery unless you have several bad batteries and the amount of patience reuqired to test individual cells and get enough to reassemble one good battery. You'll be further ahead to buy a new battery. Shop around the net, battery prices vary a lot but you are looking at spending around $135 for a new battery.

My 28v milwaukee batteries do

Unfortunately even rechargable batteries have a limited lifespan. Two years is good, if you get three years out of one you're doing very well. Lifespan is determined by how much you use then, how many recharges you put on them and how far down you drain them between charges. The more power you take out of a battery before charging it back up the better. Also, there are no repairable parts inside a battery and no way to recondition them once they're worn out. Sorry, not what you want to hear, but the only fix is to buy a new battery.

Losing charge quickly on my 28v batteries

How old are they? You can expect one year out of these batteries, and that is about it. I have boxes full of dead batteries, hoping they will be worth something someday as rare chemicals. No, just saving up for a trip to the recycling bin. But every year I buy a new set, mark the with a sharpie, that is how I know they only last a year, because I have been doing it for 10 years. Hope this helps.
