i got a panasonic camcorder and it didn't come with software. need a website that has panasonic SDR-H40 software download
You can connect to any computer with a USB port. It appears as a hard drive after you tell the camera to connect (in the menu). Then just copy the .mod files to a spot on yor computer; there will be one for each movie clip.
Your next chore is changing them into MPEG files at the correct aspect ratio. If you shot in 16:9 they will be squished together unless you use the SDCopy freeware utility to set the widescreen flag. It also renames and downloads files for you, and it's small. There's a link from this tutorial page, which also explains a lot about aspect ratios and such:

I own a panasonic sdr-h40. I do not have 'Pansonic VideoCam suite 1.0' loaded on my computer and unfortunately can only find 'update' only versions of the software which doesnt give me any help. How and where do I get the full software from the net.
I have the same problem. The CD-ROM was not in the camera package when I bought it last year. Did not need it until now so was trying to get disc from Panasonic -- Have just hung up with them (after many frustrating hours of tryting to get resolved) and told them I'll never buy another Panasonic product again.

I'm trying to get the video from my Sony Handycam (DCR-SR47) to my 09 Mac. Any ideas how I can do this? It does recognize the file format I think.
Sony Handycam (DCR-SR47) creates MPEG-2 video, just convert it to QuickTime (.MOV or .MP4) video which you can import to Mac.
Try this Sony Handycam video converter for Mac.
