turn on your ipod before putting it into the dock -make sure dock is on aswell then connect it and you will hear a noise like plugging into the computer and then the whole remote will work ! !

Yes there is a problem that has developed with the remote sensor placed on the frnot of the speaker. You need to ger the sensor replaced by taking it to a Apple service center. Its not costly.

Make sure the Aux line in cable is not plugged in. you cannot line in and also dock iPod and expect sound. the line in will over ride the sound every time.

I made the same mistake and had the same issue. You cannot use the line in Aux plug at the same time as the iPod. Unplug the line in aux cable from the pipe and the iPod will play beautifully in the pipe without it.
