Out of focus

There might be a dioptic adjust dial for the viewfinder. Check your manual and if so, look at menu while adjusting until the text is the clearest.

I have a 5 yr. old Canon Power shot SI camera. It

Hi Mike, the bad news is that your camera is beyond any hope of economic repair.Your camera displays the absolute textbook symptoms of this fault.

It has suffered a ccd failure, these often occur on cameras which are five to six years old and replacement costs far more than the camera is worth (that's if you can get the spare part, and it's not a DIY job).

Your camera has the infamous Sony 5MP ccd fitted; huge numbers of these failed prematurely due to a manufacturing defect and there was a quiet recall program whereby affected cameras were repaired for free (but only if the customer complained), usually by Sony. Apart from a couple of Sony and Nikon models this process ended last September as by then almost all affected models had pased their design life expectancy. Failures after that are therefore no longer considered to be premature.

The problem which causes ccd's to fail is now well understood and manufacturing processes were improved by all manufacturers, but you still shouldn't expect ANY digital camera to last more than five years without failing for one reason or another. Even top of the line professional Nikon models only come with a measly two year warranty: I can buy a new car for that with a seven year warranty and the car has far more which can go wrong... Sadly, late model highly electronic AF 35mm film and all digital cameras just won't last as long as simpler models.

Sorry there's no prospect of a fix, but I hope that you found my reply to be of some use. If so, please rate my answer.

if the camera will take pictures then the probem is in the play back. If nothing works the sensor is bad. It would be best to send it back to canon.

When I put the memory card in and turn on the

Hi,

If camera show Memory Card Error, Check whether the card is inserted properly or not. For SD card, check out the card lock switch is in the correct position and not stuck in between.

You can Format the memory card in the camera using the Setup Menu option (Format). Please be aware that formatting the memory card will remove any images currently stored on the card along with any other data.

If after formatting the card do not clear the error, try another memory card. If this occurs with only the one card it is likely that the memory card is defective, if the error persists over more than one card the camera may require service.

Rating the solution is highly appriciated...Good Luck

Is there a way 2 reset the camera. I can't see

If the screen displays pictures taken before the fault occurred without problems, then the symptoms you have described are classic signs of a failed CCD unit. This unit is what captures the images to start with and is what digital cameras use instead of film. Over time, the materials of the unit start to break down and irreversible chemical and physical changes occur.

if the fault affects old images as well then check the electronic viewfinder to see if the same fault is showing. If it is, then you have a duff circuit board and the camera is scrap as the circuit boards are no longer available. Even if you did find one it's very expensive to have it replaced. If the fault is with only the main rear LCD screen then you can either continue to use the electronic viewfinder alone or have the rear screen replaced. There are specialist companies which can replace most phone/camera LCD units, but the cost is also highly likely to be uneconomical

Assuming that the CCD has failed then there is nothing you can do to fix this as the only cure is a replacement CCD. Your camera is around six years old now so you can't get the part any more and if you did get lucky, the new one would be old enough that it may fail within months of being installed. Fitting the part is a professional-only job and will cost far more than your camera is worth, and no repairer will guarantee the work using old parts on an old camera unless they charge far more than normal to cover the risk.

Six years is a really good lifespan for ANY digital camera, so you've had your money's worth. Sadly they do not last anywhere near as long as some film cameras do.

Sorry, but your CCD has failed then the only realistic fix is to replace the camera.

I know this is not the easy fix which you hoped for, but if my posting has been of assistance then I ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

Model Power Shot S1IS - my view finder is blurred

Next to the eyepiece is a diopter adjustment. This allows you to focus the viewfinder just for your eye. The camera lens is not affected. I can adjust the diopter and shoot without my glasses haveing to be on.

Putting a date on the pics i take with a canon

Hi Steve, thanks for coming to FixYa.

First, for your model of camera, you do know that you can only Print the date and time the pic was taken on the photo right? It does not embed the date and time data into the image, like some cameras do.
Here is a direct quote from the manual if you want to check my information. You will find it on page 21. "Setting the date and time settings does not cause the date/time stamp to appear on the images."

This may/maynot be what you wanted, either way let me know with a comment. I can describe how to set the date and time in the camera's setup menu for you if you want, and/or I can tell you how to make sure you print the date and time on your photos. Otherwise, have fun with your camera and please rate my solution a fixya.

The lens will not retract.

When the lens will not retract and camera is not functional (no picture ondisplay, and does not shoot) , and you already tried replacingbatteries with a new fresh set (ensure please) , and then restartingcamera with no memory card inside, then camera is faulty.

Try aneasy fix by pushing gently the lens (do not force them, just help them)while you turn off camera at same time. Try also switching the modeselector.

If still no luck , then the camera must be disassembled to fix the problem.

Possible reasons are :

  • Faulty lens mechanism or jammed lens (camera usually turns off by itself in this case)
  • Main board faulty.
  • Ribbon cable to main board broken or connector defective.
  • If there is no power at all it is the connector from batteries to main board, this is also a ribbon cable.

If the camera is less than one year old will be replaced by manufacturer.

If your warranty is expired you can get an estimate for repair frommanufacturer, or from a third party like Advance Camera here :Advance Camera Repair you can book the repair online.

Canon 12x36 is ii stabilization is not working properly. Stabilization tends to want to stray.

Hello, I think dust, smudges, or fingerprints on the lenses can affect image quality and stabilization performance. Use a soft, lint-free cloth or lens cleaning solution to gently clean the lenses of your binoculars. Make sure not to apply excessive pressure or use abrasive materials that could scratch the lens surface. Moreover, when using image-stabilized binoculars, it's important to hold them steadily and avoid sudden movements. Rest your elbows on a stable surface or use a tripod if possible to minimize hand tremors. Ensure that you're using proper stabilization techniques to maximize the effectiveness of the stabilization feature.

My Canon AV1 only shoots in B mode, the light meter works correctly, and everything else seems fine. Has anyone had the same issue and found a solution?

If your Canon AV-1 is only shooting in Bulb (B) mode, it could be due to a malfunctioning shutter or aperture control. However, since the light meter is working correctly, it is possible that the issue is with the camera's shutter speed dial. The shutter speed dial is located on the top of the camera and should be set to a specific speed when shooting in aperture-priority mode. If the dial is stuck in the Bulb (B) position, then the camera will only shoot in bulb mode. I would recommend taking your camera to a professional camera repair shop to have it inspected and repaired if necessary.
