My simple tect 1TB is comming up with an error

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red xright click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not workingports(com&lpt)right click update driver

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap hope this helps

My simpletech simpledrive 1tb stopped

If you are suppose to send it to the manufacturer to get it fixed, opening it will generally void the warrenty.
If the hard drive enclosure is bad you can buy a new enclosure for around $6-$15 online. Buy the right enclosure either a 2.5" or 3.5" just measure the shorter side and it shoukd be close inside to the drive. Open the old case slide the drive out and into the new enclosure and your done
Alternately if you want to just back it up and try and sendd it in to get fixed. --Open the enclosure and slide the drive out. (This only works with a desktop) for hooking it up to a laptop use will need a sata to usb adapter. Remove the side panel on a fairly new computer 3-4 years old or newer (you will need a extra sata data cable) plug into the drive into an open sata port in the desktop and connect the power. Turn on the desktop and it should discover the new drive.

I can no longer locate

Double Click My Computer to see if you can see the removable drive. If its not there, right click my computer, manage, disk management. Look for a drive without a drive letter. Right click the drive, click on "change drive letter and parts", click on add. Choose a drive letter and click ok or apply as the case may be to get your pc to recognize your external drive.

I would be very skeptical of storing anything on there. A noisy hard drive can often be an unhealthy one (ready to die).

My good friend had the same external hard drive (smaller size) and it died on him.

If you can, back up anything you need to another location.

Try to open some of those files to see what's in them. If it's not something you recognize and all your files are missing then most likely somebody has replaced all your files with junk.
Format the disk and reload all your files. And find out who and how had access to your disk - your pc could be infected .

My 1TB Simpletech Simple Drive

Is the hard drive making loud clicking? Try placing the drive in a freezer bag, and make certain you remove the air out. At that point, place the drive in your freezer for 48 hours. Remove, and see if you can get the drive to work- if so, great! pull all the files you can.

If it isn't clicking, sometimes you can remove the casing and connect the drive directly into your system- esp. if it is internally a sata drive. USB drive enclosures basically act as mini hard-drive controllers- ranging from a full adapter, to just passing info from a sata drive over USB. Mind, both of the actions I recommended would void the warranty if it is in warranty.

The final option, and the most expensive: Look up a data-recovery firm. Most are reputable and will not charge if they cannot recover anything- do your shopping before hand! I’m happy to help further over the phone at https://www.6ya.com/expert/susan_42b401e0b1603d8a

I have a SimpleTech Simple

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files.
For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge guarantee".

Was working fine and no

Hi,

Even though it is possible that your USB hard driveis corrupt, but

before you finally conclude, try out these few troubleshooting

steps.

First of all, it is possible that the USB port that you are using is a

USB 1.0 port, which has a lower voltage not enough to

power on your Storage drive.

In this case, there are two things you can do,

1. Change the USB port you are using for the storage drive to a

USB 2.0 one (Just keep Checking all the ports one by one in case

you dont know which one it is).

2. If your Storage drive has external power facility, just plug it in

an external power first, before connecting it to the system.

If there are no USB 2.0 Ports on your system at all,

then just go to any electronic store and tell them you want to buy

a USB 2.0 Expansion card.

and if it is a laptop, A USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.

Install it on your system, and connect your external drive through it.

Meanwhile, before you try out the second option, test the drive on

a friend's system, that you are sure has a very good system, with

USB 2.0 port.

If after trying out all these, the USB Drive still doesn't work, then

I'm afraid, the drive might have been bad/spoilt.

Kindly keep me posted about the problem and let me know how it

goes

Hope this helps you out.

Thank you for using Fixya

I have 1TB simpletech drive. was working fine

Hello

My apologies if this message finds you long after posting this problem , but I am currently working through a backlog of problems that never got answered and hopefully this info can still be of use if not now possibly in future.

Please download Disc Digger HERE. This is a free tool you can use that works very well and there is no installation required, just run the program once you downloaded it.

Once you have connected the memory disk / hdd to the computer , run the program.

On the program , select the dig deep option for accidentally deleted files or dig deeper for a formatted drive. Then select the disk you want to do the recovery on and run the program.

The data will be displayed and you can recover it from there. This will only work if the card has not been used since the data was lost. Save the files to a location on the computer hard drive and not back to the disk it is recovering from as this will overwrite the other pictures that still needs to be recovered.

Some of the properties of the files may become lost in the recovery but the pictures should be fine.

You will also only be able to recover certain file types using this method.

Feel free to ask if you need more assistance.

Kind Regards
Andrea

When I check the volume on the drive it shows 950

What format is the drive? FAT32 / NTFS / EXT3?

Have you tried using the 'Linux gparted' to see what part of the disk still needes to be formatted?

Ubuntu can be downloaded in an .iso file then put onto a cd for booting without installing.

This .iso can be got from:
http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

The 32bit version can be used on most pc's. I am using cdBurnXP to burn my disks an find it very useful.
