Looping or bunching on on the bottom is a result of problems with the TOP TENSION. Rethread the upper thread and adjust tension. Try again.

did you try turning the machine off & on again to see if it would reset itself

Try an Even Feed Walking Foot for more control on thick and quilted type layers

Ask at the shop where you bought it, take a sample and arrange a time to meet & discuss if it is under warantee.

The maintenance section of your instruction book shows how to install the bobbin case. Be sure the needle is at it's highest position to do this.

The bobbin case should never slip once it is properly installed.

If the needle continues to hit the case, the machine needs to be serviced by an authorized Brother dealer if you are the original owner to prevent invalidation of the warranty.

If you try to adjust the timing you could run into additional problems.

Usually it is the opposite problem of what you think, try rethreading your machine , because the bobbin thread has to lock on to the top thread. Try this test, with presser foot up, pull top & bottom threads, they should pull smoothly, now lower presser foot and pull again, they should barely move. Try your tension at 3 and your length longer. If that doesn't seat your thread in the tension discs, I don't know what will. You can always call Brother at 1-877-276-8437 and ask if you got a dud and what you can do about it.
