Hi there, i have a tomtom GO 720 and when i turn it on it says no maps loaded. I don't have the original cd. Is there anywhere on the net that i can download them for free?

i bought TOM TOM GO 720 ABOUT 2 MTH. Ago then i cracked the screen how can i get this fix, cant find anyone that will fix it, *** the part that crack is not the LCD SCREEN that is in perfect condition, it's the touch screen, it's broken i see a great picture but wont let me pick stuff on the screen and you can see the cracked screen look like there is 3 layer of screen on these TOMTOM MIDDLE ONE BROKEN, MY E-MAIL [email protected] thanks cell 321-277-6510

I think It is all about charging. When the green LED is on TomTom should be charging. But quite often it isn't (even if green LED is on) as it is not shown on the batter status (should shown charging on the right top corner of the screen). So when the battery is empty it switches off. I tried to use car mount kit or stationa car kit. It worked only if I slightly pressed the unit to the Mount Kit. It must be sth with connection between unit and mount kit - i.e. conncection has many pins.
I think it can apply to many other users, when trying charging or reseting theri TomTom
have you guys tried cleaning the pins with some contact cleaner or alhcihol

the first time I connected TT520 to laptop everything worked fine.two weeks later it says no driver installed for device and therefor not recognising the device.how can I fix the problem.os on laptop is Vista
what you need to do,
hold the reset button for 20 seconds which is located at the bottem of the tomtom (make sure to use a pin or similar in size).
then connect the tomtom to the computer and turn it on.
this should reconnect and allow you tomtom to communicate with the computer

I put my tomtom in it's pc cradle and the available updates came up on the pc screen so i downloaded them and now when i turn on the tomtom i just a get a screen saying -Problem with map. You cannot use this map on this device: Australia-14
I am in Australia by the way.

Hi, I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to this sort of thing but I am pretty sure that you have the same problem I have, I updated my GPS just like you did because, heck, that is what TOMTOM recommend and hey presto I wound up with an application 'core' of version 8.x trying to access a map with a version of 7.x. Doh! You would have thought the damn install app would figure this out and NOT install wouldn't you ? Great, I barely know how to turn on a computer and I have to deal with this ****! My GPS unit is a GO 720.
Anyway the options were to fess up $100 for the new version map - or, um, well, patch it myself :-)
At this point I decided that I would patch it myself as:
a) I hold TOMTOM completely responsible for buggering up my GPS without warning and
b) I NEED my GPS right now, not whenever TOMTOM get back to me with a reply to my query about why this happened

Remember to use TOMTOM Home to back up your current GPS settings/configuration in case you balls up the patching process - frankly I don't trust TOMTOM Home to do a good enough job so maybe in addition it would be a good idea to connect the GPS to your computer and use something like Acronis to create an image...

Replacing the TomTom Go 720's battery is actually not all that hard as this video demonstrates:
The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to do this yourself if you'd like. His Go 720 is back up and running smoothly.

the tomtom turns on fine....but when you try to touch a letter or number it jumps to a different letter or number , we tried resetting it but still having the same problem and the unit is fully charged.....help please!! touch screen does not select the letter i touch

It is really close to perfect
open a text file put these numbers in save as cal.txt copy this file connect tt to computer go to explorer/aka file manager find tomtom drive and paste it in.
That is it. test it out.

My 5 month old Tomtom XL won't turn on. Have tried holding down the 'on' button for a longer period, but no joy! The green light is on, but it won't turn on. Connected to my computer, still same problem Does not appear to have a reset button.
Please, can someone help?

The reset button is on the bottom of your device. On my older model XL it is just above the sd card slot. If you have the newer model XL 330 then you have to hold down the on/off switch for 20 seconds to do a reboot. If you have not used it in a while let it charge for 30 monutes before doing a reset.
