If it works with your charger in your friends car, I would car's outlet for power. Maybe the fuse to the outlet is blown. Hope this helps you.

i had this problem with my nuvi 200w had to send it back as the battery is not working any more

If your satnav is not in English go to paragraph 2 first.

1. On the screen that says WHERE TO and VIEW MAP

• Press WHERE TO
• Press ADDRESS
• At the top of the screen you'll see the country VENEZUELA
  
• At the bottom you'll see an icon CHANGE COUNTRY
• Press CHANGE COUNTRY and select United States

2. If your satnav is not in English as a result of picking Venezuela

1. Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol in the bottom right corner of the page showing WHERE TO and VIEW MAP
2. Press SETTINGS (The spanner icon) or LOCALE (the blue icon) if your satnav doesn't have a settings icon
3. Press LANGUAGE (the lips icon)

There are 3 items on this screen; VOICE, TEXT LANGUAGE and KEYBOARD

Press VOICE and select a voice from an English speaking country
Press TEXT LANGUAGE and select American English
All should now be back to normal.

The touchscreen & glass needs to be replaced. I've seen and repaired many of these screens even when they show no physical sign of damage. It's due to a bad production run of screens. Please see this link for more info:

You may need to reset the Nuvi. The reset button should be on the bottom of the unit. This will not reset the pin. If you have set a safety location, driving to that location should also unlock the Nuvi. To have the pin reset you must send the unit to Garmin with a receipt or proof of purchase.

NO. The "simulator" mode is used when you want your unit to pretend it has a GPS signal instead of actually determining its actual location and motion from the GPS satellites. You can use it to do routing from your armchair in advance of a trip, but you would turn it off to do actual navigation

youll have to take it apart and look at the switch the make sure its not damaged, but normally the slide just slipes out of alignment with the swich...do big deal really, to take it apart, carefully lift the tag off the bottom where your serial number is and there will be 2 security hex screws under there..its like a t5 i think, but not sure since i cant read the size on my driver because its to small for me to read.

anyway, after you get those screws out, carefully split and remove the back cover from the front using your finger nail (thats what i use) then there will be a speaker connected to the rear and the battery, but you can leave both in place to inspect the switch and see if it just came out of alighment or broke off....

would suggest you reset the GPS and then proceed for the update again.

Follow the instructions below to reset and update your Garmin nuvi;

Performing a Standard Reset

1. Slide the power switch all the way to the left (with the Nuvi's screen facing you).
2. Hold the switch in the position for at least eight seconds.
3. Push the switch to the right to power the Nuvi back on.

Performing a Factory Reset

1. Turn your Nuvi off by sliding the power switch to the left.
2. Press your finger against the bottom right corner of the touchscreen. Hold your finger in this position.
3. Slide the power switch to the right to turn the Nuvi back on. Continue to hold you finger against the screen until you see the factory reset prompt. Tap "Yes" to perform the factory reset.

To update;

1. Plug one end of the USB cable into your GPS and the other end into your desktop or laptop computer. The GPS device will load the appropriate driver automatically, and a message on your GPS tells you that it is connected to your computer via USB.
2. Open your Internet browser of choice and type in the following web addres: "http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 "
3. Download the appropriate version of the software for your computer (Windows or Apple) and Install the WebUpdater by following the wizard (accept defaults).
4. Click "Start," "Programs," "Garmin" and " WebUpdater" to update your firmware and your maps. Periodically check and make sure your software is current.

This sometimes happens because of a problem with the mini USB plug not going far enough into the back of the satnav. It appears to be fully in but it's not. It shows a picture of a satnav connected to a computer as it thinks it's connected to one. Pushing the mini USB plug in further solves the problem.

Make sure that you have the unit fully charged and also in line of sight, turn it on and leave it for upto 5 mins without moving it lean it against a window, if this works then there is not a problem with the unit.

for your gps to unlock you must return to with-in 50 meters of the SECURITY LOCATION .....the security location is where you first set up your gps..(could be your home or office )

once there your gps will automatically unlock for you.....make sure you change the security pin number at that point since you will have access there.

other than that you would need to send your gps back to Garmin to have them unlock it.... a receipt needs to be sent as proof of ownership......

All Garmins are register once maps are opened.....so they should have your serial number in file with name

I would suggest to update your maps every 2 years, it will then give you the new roads and highways... it will cost anywhere from 50 to 60 dollars... well worth it.

Near the bottom of the Whereto>City screen is a button to change states. Select it first, so you can change to New York, then enter Troy when it returns to the City screen.

go to Tools.....Settings..... Language... under Voice tab make sure you select one that has an ending with (TTS ) text to speech

you must return the unit back to Garmin with the proper sales receipt to have them unlock it, they should have the unit registered with them withthe proper owners name.

You would need to have the City Navigator North American NT map installed on your gps or SD card....

To check to see if you have that map go to Tools....Settings.....Map.... on bottom of screen press Map Info...

make sure that the map you are looking for City Navigator North American has a check mark
