You have likely almost but not totally fried a voice coil in your speaker. Most speakers get cooked from underpowering, not from being overdriven. What are the speakers rated for and what are you driving them with?

If you have a pair, swap the woofers. If the other one works in the cabinet, then it's definitely the speaker. If it doesn't, then you've likely got a problem with the crossover inside the unit. I believe you can get a replacement crossover from Peavey. If it's the speaker, google speaker re-coning in your area, as it's cheaper to re-cone the speaker than replace it.

Horns don't work on sp2 speakers

I've got Peavey SP2's and SP4XT's and they have one common problem. The 22XT Driver needs replacing from time to time. It could be a power spike, overdriving from amp, over heating or dirt/water in horn. The driver is very easy to replace and costs about $40.00. Remove the horn, carefully lift the horn and disconnect black and red wires. Remember red is always +. Remove driver from horn with socket wrench or socket screwdriver, clean the circular gap on horn with masking tape to remove dirt, hand tighten driver screws, connect red and black wires, carefully set horn back in SP2 enclosure and slowly bring up the power. Also be sure to be very careful when setting the new driver/ coil in the horn. You don't want to damage the coils on the new driver at all!

Peavey impulse 1015 horn cuts in and out

If the horn cuts out after some usage ...then its probably the limiter lamp that is gone .... the limiter lamp is switched into circuit once the " polyswitch " gets hot .... so at first the horn works ...then when the limiter lamp is switched in ...nothing !
its just a standard 12volt car tail light lamp ...let me know if this helps

Peavey SP5

depends who assembled the speakers as to wheather or not there is any fuse proetection installed.
The drivers are probably gone from the highs because of overloading power surge on the same circuit as the cash register,
or
the crossover is failed.

Cheap fix is replace crossover
expensive fix replace cones of speaker

Best long term protection is to split up the power loading on the stage and surge/spike guard power boards for staging equipment & have resettable fuses installed at the crossobvers or the respective speaker connections.

1.FUSES ARE PROTECTION<
2.THEY BLOW FOR A REASON<
3.PROTECTING THE SPEAKERS<

I have a pair of

what sort of amp are you driving these with?
is the amp set up with buit in x-overs?
check these settings?
Boxs should be configured already for full range from manufacture unless they have been altered since purchase,

Whats really funny is that your getting either tops or bottoms from them but not both at the same time......hmmmm
they are supposed to be full range cabinets, very good ones at that.
I suspect the amp is either faulty or x-overs are poked.
some times leads are a also the blame too.poor connections, etc.
if x-over is poked you will hear an ear peircing noise and a paper duding noise if the cones were gone, like a giant transistor radio with no bass and a very high pitched trebble burning a hole in your head,

Ok heres a cheap test,

Take the speakers to another amp and test them,
If same result then you know the answer

Let me know the results thanks

I need replacement 8" drivers

You have to use original manufacture parts if you want the orignal sound and specs. The crossovers and design of the speaker enclosure is matched for the speaker drivers. Start at the link below.

Is there a crossover in the peavey kb 300 the one with the xlr on the front

You mean the KB A300 if it has a Mic input with XLR. No, there is no crossover in it as there is only one 15" speaker and it doesn't need it.
