Hampton Bay AC414-LRU 52'' Kemper Collection Rustic Finish Ceiling Fan Questions & Answers
Hampton Bay Kemper running Half Speed & Half As Bright
My hampton bay fan began running at full speed on all three fan positions a few weeks ago. I replaced the switch, which did not work. I noticed that the small black box (capacitor) inside the recess behind the light cover has a large bulge that has cracked the plastic. The part number (C61 E185116) does not reveal any websites that can offer a replacement, and hamtonbay.com redirects to homedepot.com. This fan is apparently made by home depot, and it is not backed in the same manner as Hunter fans are (I received a free replacement part for a Hunter about five years after purchase). From this experience and what I have read in this forum, I have learned to avoid the hampton bay fans. It is too difficult to find a part when there is no real manufacturer to contact for assistance.
Ceiling fan lights & fan come on without using remote
on some you set a code in the remote control ..then you teach that code to the control unit ..on others you have to set dip switches on the remote control and on the fan to match .. some of the units have dip switches on the top of the fan motor housing ..some have code setting switches on the control unit located inside the fan .. at any rate the fan and remote have to have matching codes ..
here is some information on some units

sometimes the switches are set correctly but the contacts get dirty .. so on the remote, behind the batteries is the code switches .. you can operate each one a few times to clean them ... remember where they are set ... set them back that way unless you are going to change the switches on the module in the fan ... you can check your neighbors remote to see if its on the same setting .. if so one of you has to change dip switch settings on both the fan and remote.. on some older units the code is fixed on the receiver in the fan .. the code is marked on its box .. that code has to be set into the remote unit and is not adjustable ..
this might be the mfg for the hampton bay fans ..it might be a little help

The pull chain for the light is no longer working.
If the chain can be pulled down, but the switch will not turn on the lamp, it time to replace it. They are relatively easy to replace, and can be bought any any home center or hardware store, for a few dollars. You will need a new switch, a pair of wire nuts and a wire cutter/stripper to repair the switch.
Remember to turn off the circuit breaker before changing the switch. If you don't know which circuit breaker operates your fan, just turn on the fan and start flipping breakers until the fan turn off. The switch is attached to the fan with the nut that the chain comes out of. Undo the nut and take a pair of wire cutter to cut the two wires from the switch. Strip back about a half inch insulation from the wires. Take one wire from your new switch and twist the bare wire with one on the fan, and then twist a wire nut to secure the bare wires. Then repeat with the other pair of wires. Thread the chain through the switch mounting hole and then thread the switch nut to secure the switch. Turn the power back on and check your work. Hope this helps you.
