How to rescue and recover IBM NetVista when I

When the computer boots, you should see a screen with something like this:

"To start the Product Recovery Program, press F11".

So, press the F11 key at that time and you should get steps to put your machine back in (more or less) factory condition (the software will be --- unfortunately, there's no such thing as a time machine for the hardware ;-)

If you have files you want to keep, BE SURE and back them up by copying them somewhere before you do this. In most manufacturer's "recovery" programs, the first thing they do is re-format the hard disk, so any files and programs you've installed since you bought it will be *GONE*.

Good luck with your recovery!

My netvista is a 2000 year model and has a 564 Mhz

Possibly but would not be worth the cost and the fastest processor of the same type would still be extremely slow. I would sugest looking into getting a second hand PC with atleast a 2MHz processor.

Mouse only moves up and down not side to side

If it is a PS/2 mouse with roller ball, the horizontal wheel sensors are gone. No sense in trying to fix this roller ball PS/2 mice are really cheap. As far as the USB mouse you may have to install a driver. Depends on the operating system.

Motherboard changover

It seem that everything is working except for the monitor or perhaps the on board video.

I would try a different monitor, if that does not resolve the issue. I would try installing a new video card. If you do try this, you will need to disable the on board video through the BIOS at start up.

I hope this helps,

Eric

Oh vintage 386sx? In old graphics cards, there were DIP Switches to configure either to use as monchrome mode or color mode. Did you configure graphics card properly ? Moreover try using mode command to change monochrome to color.

IBM wheelwriter 6 only types when I press hard to the keys. Normal typing doesn't activate key strikes. Is there a sensitivity adjustment on the wheelwriter 6?

The IBM Wheelwriter 6 typewriter does not have a user-adjustable sensitivity setting for key strikes. However, the issue you're describing might be related to the keyboard mechanism, individual key switches, or the impact solenoid. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
  1. Clean and Lubricate: Over time, dust, dirt, and debris can accumulate inside the typewriter, affecting key movement. Try gently cleaning the keyboard area, especially around the key switches and mechanisms. Additionally, applying a small amount of appropriate lubricant to the moving parts might help improve key movement.
  2. Key Switches: Each key has its own mechanical switch underneath. If a key requires more force than usual to activate, it could be due to a worn or dirty switch. You might need to disassemble the typewriter to access and clean the key switches.
  3. Impact Solenoid: The impact solenoid is responsible for striking the print head against the paper to make an impression. If the solenoid is weak or sticking, it could result in the behavior you're describing. Try cleaning and lubricating the solenoid. If the problem persists, the solenoid might need to be replaced.
  4. Key Flex: The flex you feel in the keyboard might be contributing to the issue. If the keyboard has any physical damage or if the flex circuit is not seated properly, it can affect key activation. Carefully inspect the keyboard area for any visible damage or misalignment.
  5. Professional Repair: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it might be best to seek the assistance of a professional typewriter technician. They have experience with these machines and can diagnose and repair mechanical issues more accurately.

(opps it flags coin dead , see?)_IMM (remove manager) , READ THE LOgs , remotely.>?? first?AND SEE LAST BOOT DEVICE./? (and what)????????????????new coin cell and ....THEN SET BIOS BOOT ORDER TO CORRECT BOOT DEVICE?got raid?1 raid or more.1 for boot?1 for data.???????????????????????????? look inside yet see what is there, even count all disks see where all connect . to what.run the raid config, some servers have raid support DVD or uSB stick to boot and manage the arrays/, but what is inside matters firstsome have upgraded LSI raid cards and that matters most if there, ? day one new had 7 cards as an option. (just with IBM alone)there are MORE. LSI makes great RAID cards, Got raid? The System x3400 M3 server supports optional spare DIMMs, memory mirroring, and RAID-0, RAID-1, and RAID-1E support standard with optional RAID-5, RAID-6, RAID-10, and RAID-50 availablemost servers like this the built in raid is weak , not allowing raid 6 mode.so that matters too if that was done day1, last time.https://lenovopress.com/tips0808#standard-specificationsthe manual is here (lenovo says EOL, zero help)https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/installation-and-users-guide-ibm-system-x3400-m3-7378-7379I anm not any kind of IBM guy. Disk with orange light (IBM X3400M3)

wow posting hard RAID questions here and not on actual IBM forum,. why do that? i can do HP or dell but not IBM on dell R710 it is automatic raid 6 (8 drives) can fail 2 and run. what raid hardware is it Ibm What raid card there/ is this RAID 6?????? if not why not. how big is each drive and now many,? drives did you read the raid controller manual first, after all no 2 servers on earth work the same unless are EXACTLY the same. fact key not told. IF IT CAN DO HOT SWAP NEW DRIVER IT CAN TAKE DAYS TO SELF REPAIR. all the time production never ends only a tad slower, the whole reason for that. no need disable the server. why not get help here 2012 seems poor support now. 10 years later, IBM is that bad? https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/installation-and-users-guide-ibm-system-x3400-m3-7378-7379 real help. this system Base config has only this., x3400 M3 models include an IBM ServeRAID® - BR10ilV2 controller??????????? IBM ServeRAID® - BR10ilV2 controller, providing RAID-0/1/1E support. The IBM ServeRAID and best. -M1015 controller, providing RAID-0/1/10 with an option to upgrade to RAID 5 is standard on 8-drive 2.5-inch models, while the ServeRAID-5014 controller, which provides RAID-0/1/10/5/50 support (upgrade-able to RAID-6/60) and includes 256GB of cache memory, is standard on 16-drive 2.5-inch models. I have a m1015 here, that it cross loaded LSI rom too.. cheap to buy and easy to convert so know about it. what you have inside our server is any ones guess. and recover tools. WHAT YOU DO find out what raid card is there then get the IBM manual on it the ask admin what raid is or run the RAID app and look first free old manual is here https://www.manua.ls/ibm/system-x-x3400-m3/manual read the manual on our raid card first. read it and now to do recovery. system load out and CTO not told so answers will be endless. or even wrong. nobody can see inside your box.

The easiest thing to do is replace the PSU. IF you are in to checking component level issues, check the MOSFETS and the diodes.
