I have a compaq laptop

Compaq Presario V6000T now retired at HP (zero support) ok its old. 12 long years old now!@!! first learn that old laptops do not have modern wifi chips. like other PCs have, a fact. the answer is Encryption modes. WEP , WPA or WPA2. in my home we have WPA2 ONLY AT THE ROUTER. for security reasons and no old laptop works with WPA2 then learn other homes running old gear, routers. have WEP on only and most new PC have that disabled, or gone now. WEP is net secure now at all so is gone. now lets answer you in more basic forum why not learn to setup the PC and your router the correct way. if your PC only does WEP/WPA (look does it?) then in the router, turn that on. if using wep turn it on, and know that you homes router can be hacked easy. if you have WPA, turn that on, and use only that if the PC can not use WPA2. use WPA for sure, at LEAST. turn off TKIP (use AES mode) too,. im reading your PC spec now. what wifi? it has 802.11b/g in most cases we must find out what wifi chip is there. and what OS you run, you never said windows what? then get the newest driver for that wifi chip. some are not available. finding the chip true name is not easy. I can but I have powerful scanners. the cure is , use the unsafe protocol or upgrade the driver, or buy wifi dongle USB (new) and use it. easy and cheap. use WPA2 only. if wise. next time post what OS you have nobody can match working drivers lacking that key fact is this stinking XP the DEAD OS? or vista? it too is now dead.

HP Presario V3000 internal wireless card not recognized

what OS? (means operating system)? we cant guess it... xp/vista/w7/w8/w10,? what? is it same OS as day 1 new? xp, does it have service pack 3 installed? if not, it wont work right. ever. if yes, XP did you install all drivers for this PC from HP.com oops they are gone... try to know that drivers for chips below the card must be good first. 3 years old to you? it not a 3 year old model at all. its a dead product with a square screen,.' its an old COMPAQ, 2006 , is my guess on DATE. looks like it has VISTA. Vista support ended this month and support is gone to on V3000 at HP. if you dig deep using HP, Google site searches some lingering elements remain. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01037981.pdf like that . the time to get DRIVER is before its 10 years old HP, dumps them at 10, or soon after that. find a newer lap top that has wide screen and upgraded it give this to the goodwill. (in fact they have newer ones cheap) it is a COMPAQ 2006 (HP bought them out LONG AGO) http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/images/ap/ds_consNB_presario_V3000_Intel_EN.pdf compaq is dead.

How do you change an artheros laptop wireless adapter

Is the adapter turned on? Is it getting signals from any other devices? If you need to replace it, it is a really quick and simple process. Flip the device over and unscrew the cover over it and it will usually have 1 or 2 screws holding the card down. It will be identified by having 2 wires running to it. Unsnap the 2 wires noting how they are plugged into the card now. Take the card out and look at it for a manufacture part number. Buy a replacement card by using that number. Installation is the reverse of this process. No drivers to contend with as it will be the same card. and it will be simple plug and play operation. it should take no more than 5 minutes to remove and reinstall an new card.

Letters y,u,h,j,n,m not functioning on keyboard

Sounds like you need the keyboard replaced. Just bring it to a computer shop and have them give you a quote on how much it will cost you. How much for the replacement keyboard, and how much for the labor. Replacing the keyboard will be a pretty easy job for them so get a quote for 30 minutes of labor. It won't even take them that long to fix it.

Jumping cursor on compaq presario laptop after upgrading from Vista to windows 7

LOL, see Windows 7 is not much better than Vista. The same group of knuckle heads wrote it. Have you ever noticed that not many corporations, school systems or government entities have migrated from Windows XP to Vista or Windows 7? Windows 7 is missing a lot of drivers and that could be your problem. You can go to your manufacturers site and see if they have Windows 7 drivers for your Touchpad and Mouse.Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Compaq Support" or "HP Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers.

Screen becomes white for my laptop what is the

Losing the display on a laptop or notebook computer is a perplexing and frustrating problem. It's a problem that is somewhat difficult to diagnose, and can require specialized tools and a considerable financial outlay to repair. When the display on a laptop computer stops working, the computer is usually not worth the investment to repair.

1. Diagnose the problem with your computer. Watch the screen from the moment you hit the power button through the time it should take to boot into the Operating System.
Adjust the computer's contrast and brightness through their full ranges to make sure that the display settings have not been changed.
Reset the computer's LCD-External Monitor display with the LCD/External Monitor key combination and reboot the computer.
Continue to Step 2 if the screen is blank throughout the booting process.

2. Adjust the screen from its fully closed position to its fully opened position. Watch the monitor for any change from a blank screen to a display or vice-versa. If the screen flashes or cuts out, the LCD panel will need to be replaced. Skip to Step 5.

3. Skip this step if your computer does not have an external monitor output.
Connect your computer's external monitor output to a known good monitor and change the display from LCD to External Monitor (the keystroke combination is different for all notebook brands). Reboot the comptuer, if necessary.
If the computer does not display to the external monitor, the video card could be bad. Skip to Step 6.

4. Consult with a professional technician to determine the cost-effectiveness of replacing your computer's LCD if you are not knowledgeable in that area.
Purchase a compatible replacement LCD and install it yourself, or pay a professional technician to do so if you do not feel comfortable performing the repair.

5. Verify that the monitor connection cables are not loose or disconnected before attempting to replace it.
Replace the monitor yourself by removing the old monitor. Remove the hinge covers by gently prying them. Check if they are screwed to the computer before prying.
Find the monitor cable's connection to the motherboard. Turn your computer over and remove any plates that may cover the point of connection. Note the orientation of the cables before disconnecting them.
Unscrew the monitor from the hinges and gently detach it from your computer. Feed the new LCD panel's wires through the same path as the old wires, and reconnect them. Secure the new LCD's hinges and replace the hinge covers.
Power up the computer and check that it works. If it does not, recheck the wire connections.

6.Consult with a professional technician to determine the cost-effectiveness of replacing your computer's motherboard or video card if you are not knowledgeable in that area.
Purchase a compatible replacement motherboard or video card, and install yourself or pay a professional technician to do so if you do not feel comfortable performing the repair.

7. Replace the motherboard by disassembling the computer. Document every connection and be sure to retain all screws and small parts in order to reassemble the computer correctly. Reassemble the computer and power it up; check the keyboard to make sure that it has been reconnected properly.
Replace the video card by removing any covers or plates that hide the card. Remove the old card and install the new card in its place. Power up the computer to test the display.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.
