Turn it self off and on
I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves
checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buyand try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in thisphoto.

I have phillips 42pf9631d/37 that wont turn on and
I have the model Philips 37PF7320A/37 won't turn on and MOST articles on the Internet say it's the Capacitors capictors capictors..I checked all of them.MINE WAS RESISTOR no. 3318 , a 100 OHM RESISTOR ON POWER SUPPLY BOARD.I BOUGHT REPLACEMENT FOR .99 CENTS SOLDER IT, AND EVERYTHING WORKED!!!THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK.JUST A SUGGESTION..1. CHECK FOR BULGING CAPACITORS (90 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM)2. THEN CHECK FOR RESISTORS WITH MULTIMETER ( FALLS INTO THE OTHER 10 PERCENT OF THE PROBLEM.)TELL ME IF THAT

Hi,
Your power supply board is dead, u know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
Good luck in solving the problem.....

Philips 42pf9831d/37 TV shuts off
good day!
that is better if pull out the power supply board to your TV to check the power supply easily..
some bad capacitors is not bulged or leak look like good but the value (uf)microfarad is change so its better if your tester have capacitance meter if not try to check the output voltage of power supply while connect it to the TV and power ON..
normally it should have 5vdc,12vdc and 24vdc if you encountered voltage drop on the said voltages you have bad capacitors for example the 5vdc got a voltage drop of 4.5vdc..you have to do is replaced the capacitors that pass through..
thank you for using fixya..hope it helps.

TV will not turn on, the light goes from green to red.
I own the same model. You have 1-2 Blown Capacitors. Take off the back cover, And look towards the center of the main power board. Look towards the center of this, and there are 2 capacitors side by side. You should see them swollen at the tops, even maybe a little black residue that has come out. I soldered on 2 new ones, and bingo! I would suggest replacing them both.

When I plug in the t.v. all I get is a flashing
This is a protection circuit that prevents the tv from coming on (to stop damage of the components) ....you need to check your voltages off the power supply and make sure they all read well (EX: 24v12v5v etc). Also look for popped capacitors that would make the values lower than need be for the tv to power on properly.
Once you repair the power supply then you may need to replace other components if needed (EX: backlight inverter)!
Please rate if this helps! :D

I have a phililps flat
you more than likely need to repair your power supply - this is a well known issue for philips sets - pull the back panel off of the tv and check the power supply for busted/leaking or swollen capacitors replace them with the same uf/vdc you can even go a little higher on th evoltages if you would like just keep the uf the same - i would recommend ordering them off the net get the 105 degree ones not the 85 degree ones from radio shcak your tv will last longer if you do.
thanks,
michael
