Sony dcr-s100 says format error
Try another drive and see if does the same thing. If so your unit is bogus. If not, the first drive is bogus and maybe a format will restore it. Not like you have much choice.
How to fix hdd format error?
Hi,
on the menu screen push the "show other" option then scroll down "manage media" scroll down you can see media format in this menu, push this option there will show two options 1, HDD 2nd one is memory card here you select the HDD the screen will show "Format?" All data will be deleted. here you give "yes" another dialogue will appear "are you sure?" here you give yes, finally will show executing then press ok.

Sony handycam DCR SR65 HDD format error E31:00
Recently purchased a camcorder DCR-SR68 and we took all our wedding video
on it. It now says HDD format error and all my video is gone. I tried
resetting didn't work, took out the battery, didn't work. Sony told me
to format the drive but that also not function. couldn;t format that.
Is it possible to recover this video??? can i solve that problem?

I'm sorry that the Camcorder is displaying the "DATA ERROR" message.
You can find the HDD FORMAT option under the HDD Set Menu.
If the issue persists after performing the HDD FORMAT, try resetting the Camcorder using the RESET button located behind the LCD panel. You can locate the RESET button from the below picture.
If the issue persists after Resetting, service many be required. Please click hear to locate the Service Facility near your area to setup a service.
