this is a pink 1gb player from walmart. the screen says ver 3.101.103 when plugged in to the computer. When viewed in windows explorer it says MTP Player instead of a drive name. Click on that and it has one subdirectory called Internal Storage. I had loaded this player with songs for my niece, then she asked me to put more on there, so i ran an mp3 resizer to reduce the file sizes (it stored these resized files to my hdd) when i started deleting the files, it got about 3/4 finished then suddenly returned the error: "(filename) could not be deleted. The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected." When I try to transfer a file to the player a similar error comes up. I have done the following: 1.Disconnect and reconnect the player. 2.Disconnect the player and remove the battery. 3.Reboot the computer. 4.Attempt to transfer the files with Windows Media Player 10 instead of drag-n-drop. All to no avail. There is not any other files on the player other than the songs, never was. Question: how do i flash the player with fresh firmware, and for that matter where do i get the firmware? I do not have the disk that came with the player, if there was one... Thanks.
The Walmart/Asda mp3 players in the uk have the same problem, I have the formatting software on the cdrom that came with it and it doesn't work 'Surprise'. The problem normally happens when you try to either upload mp3's more than one at a time or delete all at the same time causing a file the folder to become corrupt and stop everything. Is there possibly a factory reset menu on the player, if not you will have to search the internet for your manufacturer to see if they have an on-line formating tool.

i downloaded some music from limewire to my computer to put in my mp3 player but im getting stuck on trying to place the songs in my mp3 player. can you help?
The Limewire music is located in your My Computer> C:>Documents & Settings Folder>Administrators Documents (your name)>Shared Folder. You can manually drag these files from this folder onto your device, located under My Computer>Device Name (there may or may not be a music folder, you should put it in there if there is). Once you drag & drop the files, you should safely disconnect your device, then you are done. Best of Luck.

I sync'd music to my mp3 player and now it won't do anything, it shows usb connect on the screen
Well folks after thinking about this long and hard, I have finally figured this little device out. What we all though was a piece of junk works!! Just wish some directions would have been sent with the MP3 Player. All you need to do is simple make sure you have Real Player the SMPK 2021 is completely compatible with this player drag and drop your music and add to your device. It works great.. you can also delete any old music and upload new music but all needs to be done through your real player!! You can also add videos the same way!!! I am more than willing to help you out... took me long enough to figure it out, hate to see someone bang their head against a wall as much as I have.... so good luck My Mp3 is now rockin

Inserting a 1 gig SD card gives an error message that it must be formatted using SigmaTel Formatter. I cannot find such software and have tried what Memorex suggests to no avail. Any help will be appreciated.
A few suggestions:
1] I’ve tried using a 1GB sd card in the MMP3642A with no success. Interestingly, I can transfer files to the 1GB card when it is in the MMP3642A, but when I turn on the player to listen to the files, I get the sigmatel formatter error message. I tried running the sigmatel formatter, but it doesn’t understand the 1GB size. Apparently whoever programmed this braindead formatter program only programmed it for up to 512MB sd cards. Interestingly, I tried flashing this player with the MMP8500 firmware, and then the player does play files off of the 1GB sd card, but the LCD is mostly cutoff and only 25% of the LCD shows up. So it seems the only obstacle to using a 1GB sd card is this stupid formatter program. I tried formatting the sdcard to fat16 instead of Fat32, but that did not help
2] If you want to use a card with more than 64MB, you need to use the CD that was with the player. DO NOT USE AUTORUN! Explore the disc, go into the "products" folder, run the stusbmscformat.exe application. It will show a the drive letter for the player, click the arrow and select the next drive letter down, then press start. This worked for me, I hope it will be useful. Why memorex doesn’t address this issue is beyond me.
3] How do I correct the error: Reformat external media with sigmatel formatter? If you have installed the software disc that you received with your MP3 player, you will need to follow these instructions; -- From your computer, click 'START' -- then 'PROGRAMS' -- then 'MEMOREX' -- then 'FORMAT' -- choose the 2nd drive If this doesn't correct your error, you will need to return the memory card to the retailer for an exchange. connect your memorex mp3 player , then turn it on and click start .....i did the same and its working now.

I just bought the same MP3 player, 4GB, yesterday and had the same problem. Frustrating! After searching for a solution on the internet and not finding one, I tried the following and it worked for me:
Go to the main menu and select SYS (System). Select "Online Device" and there select "USB Disk". Hope this can help.
