I've made some additional checks in the air

Never ohmed a capacitor. But, your compressor should not need the start cap. Take it off completely and run machine. Not sure of your problem either but to ohm a compressor, common to start + common to run should = start to run. To test a capacitor without the capabilities of mfd on your meter measure the amps on the herm wire × 2650 = ?? Divide that by the volts across common and herm. This will give you the mfd rating. Same with fan amps × 2650 =?? ÷ volts = mfds. Remember, not the amps off the contactor...the amp reading on the cap wire. Good luck!! Fan motor needs oiling but there is no visble place to add oil

As with most motors there are felt washers on the shaft that provide the necessary lubricant. However some motors have sealed bearings and don't need lubricating. If you do find that the motor can be lubricated be careful no to over lubricate as excessive oil will run down onto the windings and short out the motor.

Have a Fedders A6Q10F2B-S air

Hello Jimscs,

I understand that you are having a problem with you window air conditioner. You state that the unit is not cooling any longer and can not hear the compressor kick on.

I would suggest checking the capacitor on the unit. This is a cheap item that will tell you weather to purchase a new unit or not as servicing window units is not worth the labor costs.

1. Disconnect the power.
2. Take the rear cover off of the unit
3. Locate the capacitor it will look something like below

5. Put the cover back in place and plug in and see if the compressor works

If the compressor does not run then I would suggest purchasing a new unit. As most HVAC outfits will not service window units as they are not cost effective.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to post to this thread and I will be happy to answer them. Thank you for choosing FIxYa.com

Model a6q10f2a beeps 2 times when plugged in, and

Pull the unit from the wall and it`s shell, check the fan to see if it is turning ok by hand,if there is any restriction,it will blow the control board, the circuit board behind the controls, clean the unit while you have it out,if the fan is stiff, and does not turn, this could be the problem, and if so,the circuit board is most likely shot. Also, the circuit board is most likely shot anyway, even if the fan is fine, there is a lot of problems with fedders and other brands, and the circuit boards, they dont last too long.

How do I check the freon (coolant) and replace if

You'll need some refrigerant guages that'll cost anywhere from $85 upwards. First though you would need to check and see if it even has the service ports to connect the guages to. Depending on the type of refrigerant you will not be able to buy it unless you have a CFC certification and then a 30 lb jug is $200 or more. You should probably get someone to check it for you. With the price of components and service calls it's usually cheaper to get a new unit but you could call and get some prices for service calls first. Sorry to give you this bad news.

AC condenser will not turn off after unit is turned off.

your contactor that supplies power to the compressor has its contacts welded together and even if you turn up the thermostat and the coil that holds the contacts closed will de-energize,but with the contacts welded together this is no longer possible, you need to replace the contactor
