Sony is pretty secretive about the :23 code. It can't be found anywhere. However, to service the C:31 code, Sony recommends you do the following:

1. Turn off the camcorder.
   
2. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
   
3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
   
4. Turn on the camcorder.
   
5. If the error message appears, service may be required.
   

If your camcorder still shows the same error code, then you'll have to send in your camcorder for service.

ive had my camcord for a while but not been able to use it much as when i record it is black cant see what im recording its still new in box every think else works is this a problem with this make!!!!!

Check DC adapter Socket it might rusted or pin damage

there is something wrong with the main chassis they are common to do this it has to be sent in for repair make sure to find a sony only repair center i work for canon and we only repair canon but there are other places that we contract out to sometimes and they might not be as helpful

If there is no picture in camera mode you can claim for Sony recall. If you need more info please advice.

the problem of your camera is the ccd image sensor...better go to the sony service center for replacing the image sensor..i know it is free for replacing that sensor cause that is one of the model that sony recall product....

Acording to the manual to display date and time press DATA CODE ON THE REMOTE CONTROL during playback. Useless if you dont have a remote like me. IT deos say the date and time are recorded automaticaly onto the tape.no idear how to view it. Hope i have helped Eric

If it were worth repairing, as a Sony agent, I would replace all of the capacitors and clean up the board then reset the mechanism and test. Probably too old being 2001 vintage.

The best thing you can do now is to take it to a specialist and get them to do the repairs. Camcorders have a lot of electronics in them and can be easily damaged if your a not an experienced repairer. You might also have to consider that this camcorder might not be repairable.

The record / playback heads probably need cleaning, using a compatible cleaning tape. Failing that, it is either damaged or broken.
