It's one of two problems, either the nozzles in the cartridge are clogged or your printing preferences are set to "print in grayscale." To clear the nozzles try running the printer through a "deep cleaning" cycle from the printer's maintenance screen (available from the printer's properties). To check the printing preferences go to the printer's properties, as well, from Start > Control Panel > Printers & Faxes > right-click on the printer and choose Printing Preferences. Make sure to uncheck "Print In Grayscale."

Perhaps the contacts in the printer or the onboard programming has become corrupted. Or it is haunted.

With the printer being as old as it is, you most likely won't be able to get replacement parts for it. I did some checking around, and can't find anything as far as parts.

HP/Compaq does not have drivers for Windows 7. If your computer does not recognize your printer and install a driver when you plug it in then I would recommend trying the driver for Windows XP which can be found here.

if you are outside of Australia the ink tanks should be named the same just a different price so for the BLACK INK its a

I see that many, many people have problems making their "Old" XP Drivers work under windows 7. Here is how to Install them so they work. Download your XP driver you wish to install. If it's in a zip/rar file then extract it to your desktop. You should have a simple .exe file sitting on your desktop to install the drivers, as normal for XP. Right click the .exe file and select "Properties". Then select the tab called "Compatibility" Now check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" Make sure "Windows XP Service Pack 2" is highlighted. Now apply the settings and run the installer. This should work for most drivers, but not all. make sure you install and run all.any programs as Administrator.

have you unplugged the printer and let it sit for 30 minutes? try that and plug it back into the power only!then check to make sure you have the right printer drivers for the printer. is this printer a refurbished printer? youll find a "refurbished" sticker on the bottom of the printer if it is. sometimes a refurbisher switches out the motherboard for another type. this means that the driver is also changed. if you have the right drivers then turn on the pc. turn on the printer. wait for the printer to finish making noises and plug in the USB cable. if this worked, youll hear windows little bing as it sees the printer. if those lights stay and the printer doesnt respond, buy a new one. the motherboard is bad in it!
