try using the windows sound recorder to see if that records music? if it doesnt then you need to go into your sound recording properties and change it from mic to wave

Depending of what OS you are using the drivers should be available from the manufacturer's site, or if you are in to penguins at least on the Ubuntu-fork of Linux It should work with ALSA and/or PulseAudio from 12.04 and newer.

right click on the icon of the emu 0404 in the tastbar and click on restore defaults your system will do a restart and your sound will be back

Nothing is wrong with sound card.

The Problem may be...

1. Media Player
Solution: Try playing with different media player.

2. Virus
Solution: Scan you HDD with antivirus software.

If that doesn't work then...
3. in OS / System
Solution: Backup your data, format your HDD, and reinstall you OS.

Are you sure the problem is with the sound card? May be it is the volume settings. There are several ways to increase the volume.

Base from the description of your problem and from all the details that you provided us including the things that you already tried doing to correct the problem these is definitely a hardware issue with the sound card that you have purchased second hand.

There should be 2 analogue outputs on that sound card. Also make sure that all sound are set to the default sound card. There should be a check mark along with the sound card.

make sure that the sound card is securely seated with no dust in the socket then uninstall it restart your computer and reinstall the sound card and its drivers
if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound,video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers hope this helps

The driver not being digitally signed means that microsoft didn't give the company there "seal of approval" which means the hardware wasn't verified by Microsoft and is not up to there lofty standards. As long as the hardware installs and you can get it to work, that is what matters. Not whether Microsoft gives there seal of approval and gets more money out of companies for that privilege.

may be problem in power unit. you can try it, first uninstall driver and after setup.

You should Reinstall your Sound Driver.

• Go to the control panel
• Click on the System Icon
• Click on the Hardware Tab
• Click on the Device Manager then
• Click on the Sound, Video and Game Controller then
• See the Audio Driver is in the list.if it is available then
• Right Click on the Audio Driver the Click on the Update Driver and update diver wizard will start.and your driver will be reinstall.

Click open the Volume Icon from the system tray and check if any of the items are not muted. Unmute it and then play.

you need to update yo sound card with vista

This is a generic issue with all Windows OS updates....many of the users are facing this issue....this issue began after an auto update from MS changed many IRQs of Win OS, mainly the Sound and Audio Control system of Windows.
1 - R U facing NO Audio / No Sound issue...?
2 - Is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - Is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

If ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by Microsoft....as ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....
NOTE..THIS…IS…VERY..IMPORTANT...
No file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it…or giving any help on this.

many of us are victim of this “stupid” update, my office has 24 PC/Notebooks and almost all of them got this issue one by one in 4 months time period, I head the tech dept here.
